what's being called a stinging rebuke of China. President Tsai won in a landslide on Saturday

with 57 percent of the vote and a record-breaking 8-point-2 million ballots.

Her main rival, Han Kuo-yu, of the China-friendly Kuomintang, got 39 percent.

Tsai said the results were a response to Taiwan's sovereignty and democracy being threatened.

It's a blow to mainland China, which sees Taiwan as its own and has been ramping up

economic and military pressure on the island in a bid to convince voters to support pro-China

politicians.
