  • - [Maude] Ewan McGregor is back as Obi-Wan Kenobi

  • for a Disney+ Series, big question mark?

  • Hello there.

  • Let's take a little ride back to 2012, shall we?

  • The last "Star Wars" movie that had come out

  • was 2005s "Revenge of the Sith".

  • "Somebody That I Used to Know" was number one in America

  • and Disney had just purchased Lucasfilm

  • for a mind-blowing amount of dollars

  • announcing that they'd be making

  • a whole new slate of "Star Wars" films.

  • It's also the exact moment

  • that every single "Star Wars" fan realized

  • that they might be seeing the cinematic return

  • of a certain Jedi master

  • who sees things from a certain point of view.

  • - A certain point of view?

  • - That's right, ever since Lucasfilm

  • became the property of the house of the mouse,

  • fans have wanted,

  • nay, demanded to know when they'll see Obi-Wan Kenobi

  • back on the big screen.

  • - Hello, there!

  • - And while rumors have been swirling for months now

  • about when we would see an old Ben again

  • either in his own standalone movie,

  • - Hello, there.

  • - Or as an appearance as a Force Ghost,

  • this week some new info has come to light

  • about the wizard/crazy old man finally getting his due.

  • So what are these new details?

  • I hear you asking through your computers.

  • Well, according to the site Cinelinx,

  • Ewan McGregor has apparently signed on

  • to reprise his role as the Jedi Knight

  • turned desert baby-sitter.

  • And reportedly, he will be getting his own series

  • for Disney+.

  • Yes!

  • I'm so excited about this! (laughs)

  • Now this isn't exactly surprising though.

  • Fans may remember that there have been whispers

  • of Ewan McGregor making a cameo

  • in "The Last Jedi" as a Force Ghost.

  • And while "Star Wars" ended up going with Yoda instead,

  • the question of when we would see Kenobi next

  • still lingered.

  • And of course, when "The Rise of Skywalker"

  • went into production,

  • the rumor mill went full steam ahead.

  • This time saying that we would see Kenobi

  • in the last installment of the Skywalker Saga.

  • - [Announcer] No one's ever really gone.

  • - While we will still have to wait

  • to see if the latter ends up happening,

  • we think the likelihood

  • of the Obi-Wan Kenobi's Disney+ series being legitimate,

  • is pretty high.

  • Of course, as like all rumors,

  • we do encourage you to take this

  • with a crate sized grain of salt.

  • - (spits) Salt.

  • - (giggles)

  • Keeping everything in mind,

  • we think that it would make sense for Disney+

  • to facilitate an Obi-Wan story.

  • We're just not even being subtle here.

  • We want this to happen.

  • Disney, I know you watch this so,

  • - Do it!

  • - (inhales)

  • Was that threatening enough?

  • From what we know and from what we've seen

  • with "The Mandalorian",

  • this show seems to have an extremely high production value.

  • So with the amount of money

  • and prestige products being dumped into Disney+,

  • I mean, already we have "Loki", "Wanda Vision",

  • "The Lady and the Tramp" et cetera, et cetera,

  • adding an Obi-Wan series might just be

  • the perfect force push to get on-the-fence fans to sign up.

  • Let's be real here.

  • Not one person has needed convincing.

  • But if you did, there it is.

  • Well, there has a renaissance of late for "Star Wars"

  • "Episodes I-III" mainly due to the popularity

  • of prequel memes.

  • - Ironic.

  • - Those films are still considered pretty devisive

  • among "Star Wars" fans.

  • However, one things all fans seem to agree on

  • is that Ewan as Obi-Wan was the best part of those movies

  • and seeing him reprise the roll

  • would make most "Star Wars" fans young and old

  • absolutely sign on.

  • So, what could an Obi-Wan series look like?

  • Well, there are a lot of options for Disney to pull from.

  • Enough time has passed

  • for Ewan McGregor to play a bit of an older Obi-Wan

  • possibly living as a hermit on Tatooine

  • as he watches over Luke for those 19 years

  • when he goes from Ewan to Alec Guinness.

  • What happened?

  • I would like to know!

  • You obviously saw some (beep)!

  • There's a lot of scum and old villainy happening there.

  • We saw a glimpse of that in the recent Marvel Comics

  • but I'd like to see it brought to life.

  • Honestly, we'd actually like to see

  • sort of an exiled Obi-Wan solving crimes on Tatooine.

  • I mean, we did see his detective experience

  • in "Attack of the Clones"

  • and this could be a cool expansion on those skills.

  • - Yep.

  • - Or there could be a bounty hunter

  • attempting to track down baby Luke

  • and get his location back to Darth Vader

  • and Obi-Wan has to stop him.

  • Sign me up, please!

  • Another thing that we know about Obi-Wan

  • from the end of "Revenge of the Sith"

  • is that he shouldn't have taken the higher ground!

  • (intense music) (lightsaber whooshes)

  • You we're the chosen one!

  • Is that he was planning on learning how to communicate

  • with his former master Qui-gon Jinn per Yoda.

  • Now, while it's not likely

  • that we'll see Liam Neeson appear in an Obi-Wan series,

  • it would be pretty cool to show Obi-Wan exploring the force

  • in new and deeper ways

  • becoming more powerful than we could possibly imagine.

  • And to be fair, Liam did lend his voice to "Clone Wars"

  • so you just never know, eh?

  • These fingers are crossed.

  • Look, in any case this is all just speculation for now

  • while D23 is around the corner

  • and would be the prime moment

  • to announce a new Obi-Wan series,

  • we're just gonna have to wait

  • until this news is officially confirmed

  • by "Star Wars" before we know for sure

  • because for now the official word

  • that we got coming out of the "Star Wars" camp

  • is that it's all just a rumor for now.

  • Nothing to report on

  • until starwars.com reports any news.

  • You will go about your day (giggles).

  • - Move along.

  • - So there you have it but what do you freaks think?

  • I'd love to know!

  • Would you be down for an Obi-Wan Disney+ series?

  • Ha, ha, kidding, I'm not even asking.

  • Of course you do.

  • Would you prefer a movie, though?

  • And do you think Obi-Wan realized

  • that when he said, "Only a Sith deals in absolutes",

  • he was, too, dealing in only absolutes?

  • - Ironic.

  • And when Yoda said, "Do or do not, there is no try,"

  • that is absolutes as well so secretly they're all Sith?

  • - Ironic.

  • - Humph, yeah, that's what's up.

  • Let's discuss!

  • Thank you so much for watching, may the Force be with you!

  • If you like what you saw, hey, give us a like and subscribe.

  • If you wanna get notified

  • every time we go live with the show or drop a new video,

  • there's a little bell button floatin' around.

  • Hit that bell button so you can be up to date

  • on all the latest theories, news and rumors

  • in the pop culture world.

  • Bye-bye!

  • Never tell me the odds!

  • (electronic popping)
