Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Idioms 195. All right. Let's take a look

To-infinitive

at the title today. To know someone in high places. That's the idiom for the day.

All right. Let's take a look at the note. If someone knows another person in high

places,  he or she he or she knows someone in important positions,  in business,

government,  etc.  ,  especially a person that could do someone a favor. So yeah.  you're

calling them because they have influence and maybe you know them. Maybe they're

your good friend or maybe they,  maybe they owe you a favor for some reason.

Maybe you help them with something in the past or you have some connection to

them. So you know someone in high places.  All right. Let's take a look at the first

example.  I could possibly,  I could probably help you get a job in that

company because I know several people in high places. Yeah. Maybe I could make a

few phone calls. Maybe they would be glad to help me. You know,  I might be able to

get you in.  I might be able to call some people in high places. Okay.

Let's take a look at number two. She cannot get away with those crimes just

because she knows a lot of people in high places. Yeah. Maybe somebody did some

crimes,  and they think because maybe they have some family members or they have

they know somebody that was close to them or close to that family. Right be

able to protect them. So it could work this way too. Maybe somebody in high

places could you do you a favor in this way and and help protecting you. Okay.

Let's look at number three.  I know a few people in high places that

owe me  a favor.  I may have enough pull, Pull here means like the influence. To  be able

to do this for you. All right oh you know you can always think of The Godfather

movies. You know , The Godfather always knew a lot of people in high

places. So that when people wanted things from him , he might be able to pull some

strings. Or he could he can know people in high places to get things done. Okay,.
