  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Proverbs 83. The proverb today is an ounce of

  • prevention is worth a pound of cure. So remember an ounce is something that's

  • very very small and a pound is something very, very big. So an ounce or just a

  • little bit of prevention, so for every little bit of prevention you do. It's

  • worth a lot more as far as the cure is concerned. Or, or at least you know,

  • avoiding some trouble. So let's take a look at the note here. This proverb is

  • basically used to mean that it is better and easy to try to avoid a problem,

  • sickness, etc. than to try to stop it or correct it after it has started. So it's

  • better to avoid it than to deal with it later. That's basically what they are

  • saying. All right. Let's continue with the note here. There are many, meaning many

  • people. There are many who say this proverb originally comes from a Benjamin

  • Franklin quote used under an assumed name, like a pen name or a fake name . And

  • it was first used in regard to fire prevention. Yeah. Remember we've covered

  • many , many other quotes under under the videos I do as quotes by Benjamin

  • Franklin. He always has very good quotes and this of course became a regular

  • proverb that's used commonly in our everyday life. Today this phrase is

  • probably used more in regard to health and other issues.

  • Okay so let's give a couple of examples here. Example number one. Eating healthy

  • and exercising regularly is the best way to avoid illness. Remember an ounce of

  • prevention of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Let's look at number two.

  • You should board up those windows. Yeah. Any time like a hurricane or typhoon is

  • coming, you see people always try to protect

  • windows because sometimes they can break with strong winds. So if you're boarding

  • up the windows, it means that you're putting like wood

  • in front of it in order to protect those windows. You should board up those windows before the hurricane strikes. You know before it

  • hits for it arrives. They always say an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of

  • cure. Okay good. I hope you got it. I hope it's clear.

  • I hope it was informative. Thank you for your time. Bye-bye.
