  • Hi this is Tutor Nick P and this is Verb Phrase 87. The verb phrase today is

  • hold out for. Hold out for something. Okay. Let's take a look at the note here. If

  • someone holds out for something, he or she waits patiently to get a better deal

  • or what he desires. What he really wants. Okay. We got three examples. Let's look at

  • example number one. She is holding out for a better deal. We say that all

  • the time. Number two. The owner of that house is

  • standing firm on the price. He is unwilling to accept any lower offers. He

  • is holding out until he gets his asking price. And so a lot of times about money

  • you might be holding out for the price that you want, or the price that you

  • expect or the amount of money that you desire. Okay. Let's look at number three.

  • Another company offered me a lower position, you know a job but in a lower

  • level. But I am planning on holding out until someone offers me the position I

  • want. So again it could be about a job. It's usually some kind of offer. You're

  • holding out until you get what you want or you at least get something better

  • than what somebody has offered you. Okay. Anyway, I hope you got it. I hope it's clear.
