So, you're going to Genoa, but you don't know what to do?
Well, you've come to the right place!
Hi guys how are you? These are my top 10 tips on doing Genoa in one day.
Number 1: Piazza della Vittoria.
Start by visiting this majestic square, located just in front of the Genova Brignole Train Station.
In the center you'll find the triumphal arch, dedicated to the Genoese who fought during the first world war.
In the background, have a look to the Christopher Columbus Staircase, where you'll see the caravel of Columbus, made by floral decorations.
Number 2: Via XX Settembre.
Turn right and walk along via XX September, the shopping street.
Walking up, you'll pass around prestigious shops and elegant clubs and bars.
And you'll walk below the majestic monumental bridge.
It's the perfect place to yield to a slice of Focaccia or a Panarellina, one of the most famous cakes of Genoa.
Number three: De Ferrari Square.
After walking for Via XX September, you'll reach Piazza de Ferrari, the central square of the city.
This is not the biggest one, but it's the one most loved by the Genoeses.
Turn your face up and admire the big fountain, four eclectic buildings, the Ducale palace and the famous Carlo Felice Theatre.
Number four: the Cathedral of San Lorenzo.
Built around the year 1000, it guards lots of legends.
One of the most famous is the "San Lorenzo little dog" one.
According to the legend at the final works of the Catedral, one of the sculptors dog died.
He loved so much that dog that he decided to carve a tiny sculpture of the sleeping dog into the marble at the entrance.
Number five: the old port (Porto Antico).
Keep walking in San Lorenzo street and reach the old port area, commonly known as EXPO.
Because it hosted the Universal Exposition in the 1992 and it has been completely renovated by the architect Renzo Piano.
Now this is a gorgeous area.
There're the Genoa Aquarium, the Sea Museum and lots of attractions for children!
Number six: the alleys.
Ok, Genoa's old town is where all the tourists go, but that's because it's gorgeous!
Spend few hours in the alleys, where the famous singer Fabrizio De Andrè has born.
My tip? Get lost and look around you. It feels like you travelled back in time.
Number seven: The Annunziata Church.
Just next to the old town you'll find the Annunziata Church.
Not into churches? Just have a look at it anyway.
From outside, it looks like a normal church, but inside…well, it's gorgeous!
Number eight: Via Balbi.
Next to the Annunziata church, you'll find Via Balbi, home of the Genoa University and of the Royal Palace.
Get into it, and imagine how the king used to live.
Number nine: Via Garibaldi.
That's definitely my favorite part of the city.
It's a pedestrian street, considered as a UNESCO world heritage site.
You'll walk in the middle of fourteen magnificent palaces built between the 16th and the 18th century, which have enchanted travelers from all over the world.
Are you an art lover? Then you'll find Flemish painters' masterpieces.
The Paganini's violin, amazing artworks, and frescos all worth of any king.
Number ten: Spianata Castelletto.
For sunset, head to the hills in the Spianata Castelletto.
A place which hosted a small fortification which helped defend the city in the past.
Now the castle isn't there anymore, but the view is a-m-a-z-i-n-g.
The perfect photo for your Instagram.
