  • Do you speak English? Do you want to

  • speak English fluently? Do you want to

  • speak English like and native? If the

  • answer to these questions is yes then

  • stay tuned because I have five essential

  • pieces of advice that you should be

  • following in order to achieve fluency.

  • Hello my name is Anna this is English

  • like a native and we're finally

  • answering that age-old question how to

  • achieve fluency when learning English. Of

  • course there is one thing that you

  • should all be doing in order to improve

  • your English and that is to spend some

  • time working one-on-one with a great

  • English teacher. Now lots of you asked me

  • for private lessons and I do as many

  • private lessons as I possibly can but I

  • can't see all of you, however I do have

  • an affordable solution for you and that

  • is italki so I started working with

  • this incredible company called italki

  • which is a website that helps to connect

  • students and incredible language

  • teachers all around the world it offers

  • affordable personalised one-on-one

  • lessons that are convenient for you, and

  • when I say affordable I mean super

  • affordable, cheaper than offline tutors

  • at thirty percent of the cost, and to

  • make it even better if you follow the

  • link in the description box below when

  • you buy your first lesson you'll get one

  • absolutely free, but this is a limited

  • time deal only guy so don't delay. Right

  • let's get down to business, what five

  • things do you need to do in order to

  • achieve fluency?

  • Practice every day! If you don't use it

  • you lose it, that means if you're not

  • practicing on a regular basis your brain

  • will forget the information so make sure

  • you're practicing your English on a

  • daily basis even if that's just singing

  • an English song when you're driving to

  • work or thinking about English sentences

  • and phrases while you're brushing your

  • teeth. So if you seriously want to be

  • fluent don't make excuses just do it

  • Don't be afraid to fail, making mistakes

  • is all part of the process if you don't

  • fail then how will you ever succeed how

  • will you ever learn. Speak even if you

  • don't know how to pronounce the words

  • Write even if you don't know how to

  • spell the words. Have a conversation even

  • if you don't fully understand what the

  • other person is saying. When children

  • learn to speak they make mistake after

  • mistake after mistake but by trying the

  • people around them are happy to help

  • them and encourage them to improve; as

  • adults we become self-conscious and

  • frightened of failure but without the

  • courage to make ourselves vulnerable

  • without the courage to step outside of

  • our comfort zone then you will never

  • grow or improve or reach your goals so

  • go out and make mistakes. Be courageous

  • enough to fail and by doing that you

  • will succeed. Natives can read write

  • speak and listen so if you want to be

  • fluent in the language you have to

  • practice all things equally so on a

  • regular basis start watching English

  • films or an English series. Follow an

  • English podcast or listen to the radio

  • Connect with natives or other English

  • learners to practice your speaking on

  • a regular basis or just talk to yourself. Write a

  • diary, write stories, even write your

  • shopping list in English. On a daily

  • basis you can read an English newspaper

  • or follow an English blog. My point is

  • you should be learning via many

  • different avenues reading writing

  • listening watching speaking to lots of

  • different people so don't get stuck just

  • doing one thing. Stop worrying about the

  • rules. English is a weird language it

  • doesn't always make sense but us natives

  • don't worry about it so neither should

  • you. Everyday I get hundreds of

  • questions things like why do we

  • pronounce this word in this way? Where

  • did this word come from? Why do i

  • structure the sentence in such a way? Why

  • don't I say it like this? And in most cases

  • my honest answer is: I don't know. I

  • didn't make the language. I didn't make

  • the rules or the exceptions to the

  • rules; f I did make the English language

  • then I would have made it a lot easier

  • but the point is we don't need to know

  • why we just need to know how. If you're

  • learning to drive a car you don't need

  • to know how the car works, how it turns

  • petrol into energy to make the car move

  • All you need to know is how to actually

  • drive, how to stick the key in the

  • ignition, how to control the car, how to make it go and how to make it stop, not

  • how it works that's not important. It's a

  • waste of your energy, it's a waste of

  • your studying time, it's a waste of your

  • memory space learning all those rules

  • and origins so stop worrying us natives

  • don't worry about it so neither should

  • you. If you truly want to speak like a

  • native then learn like a native. There

  • are two distinct ways to learn a

  • language; the first is probably how you

  • are trying to learn the language now.

  • You learn the rules, you do lots of writing

  • exercises grammar drills, you learn the

  • exceptions to the rules, you learn big

  • list of vocabulary, ah. So what you're

  • doing is learning the language and all

  • the rules which most of us natives don't

  • actually know and never learnt. And the

  • other way to learn language is to learn

  • like and native learns the same way that

  • you learn your language when you were

  • very young. You watch situations, you

  • learn the words to describe the way you're

  • feeling, you learn the phrases to

  • describe exactly what you want, you

  • listen to people talking on a daily

  • basis, and little by little you start to

  • remember certain words when you hear

  • them over and over again. You try to

  • speak you try to communicate. You may

  • get it wrong, people correct you, that's

  • okay. You improve and slowly but surely

  • through listening experiencing enjoying

  • speaking reading writing slowly but

  • surely you acquire the language. But

  • everybody's different. Some people like

  • to learn the language learn the grammar

  • learn the rules and other people like to

  • acquire the language experience the

  • language if you do this it will be more

  • fun the language will last longer and

  • you'll speak more like a native. If you

  • do this, it might not be as fun, it might

  • take a long time, and you might not sound

  • like a native at the end of it, but how

  • about doing a lot of this with a little

  • bit of that, so that this can then help

  • to reinforce that. So there you have it

  • five things that you should be doing in

  • order to achieve fluency. If you found

  • this in any way helpful then please show

  • your appreciation by clicking on that

  • thumb. All the links to my social media

  • along with some

  • recommendations and some special treats

  • especially for you are in the

  • description box below so do spend some

  • time looking through those and if any of

  • you do sign up to the italki website

  • let me know how you get on I'd love to

  • hear about your progress. Okay until next

  • time take care and goodbye
