Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles It is easy to understand why Metal Gear Solid 2 is the most controversial, opinionated, and debated game in the series. The game pulled the bait and switch when they, spoiler alert for a 10 year old game, replaced series hero Solid Snake with Raiden. The game had been given the chance to be seen apart from all the hype with the HD collection release and now on Playstation Vita. In case you haven’t played it, the game is broken into two chapters, one taking place on a tanker where you play as Solid Snake and the other on a offshore cleaning facility called The Big Shell. That is where the majority of the game is and you play it as the infamous Raiden, who is not as bad this time, knowing that he would later redeem himself in Guns of the Patriots. The story is long and in depth, being told through the numerous and often long cutscenes. But you know all of that, what is new about the Vita release? The high resolution and the HD graphics work so perfectly together, giving the game that next gen polish it deserves. But the game has also seen updates with the controls. Making use of the Vita’s touchpads, you can now interact with the world using them. When you are pinned up against a wall, you can swipe your finger across the screen to move and lean out from the side. Also the weapons and items are touch control, allowing you to put tap the corner to equip a weapon. You can even use the touchscreen to zoom in and out during cutsceens, which can keep you entertained during some long cutsceens or you can just zoom in to get a better view of Raiden. The gam-e feels great with these new controls, bringing you even more into the world of Metal Gear Solid 2. And just like Snake Eater, you can now save your game to the cloud and continue it on console, which makes you not have to collect all those dog tags again. One major complaint about the Vita collection is the absence of Peace Walker. I am assuming they are going to release it through the store at a later time, but it would have been nice to see it included, given the fact that it was designed for a handheld. Metal Gear Solid 2, and the Vita collection in general, are still great games. And with the new touch controls and High Def graphics, it gives you more than enough reason to sneak back into the world of Metal Gear.
