  • In this week's job search tip, we're going to be going over interview question and answers.

  • Today we're going to discuss the question "Why do you want to work here?"

  • We're gonna look at it from different angles and find out what employers are

  • really looking for.

  • That's coming up!

  • Hey guys, I'm Kim with Snagajob and welcome to our weekly show.

  • We're going to be going over everything from

  • interview tips to resume advice and everything in between.

  • Today, we're going to be tackling the dreaded question "Why do you want to work here?"

  • Now this is a very common question and chances are in almost every interview

  • you go on you are gonna be asked this question.

  • "Cuz I'm broke and I really need the money."

  • So as tempting and honest as that may be,

  • what they really wanna know is if your looking for their job,

  • or if you're looking for just any job.

  • If you come across as desperate and needy

  • than it's just looking like you're gonna take any job that comes along

  • and you may leave them as soon as something better comes.

  • "I don't really wanna work here but

  • "I'm trying to afford this Spring Break trip with these girls that I know. Apparently, playing

  • Call of Duty is not a real job. Whatever, Mom."

  • "I heard employees get free sandwiches?"

  • "I have the biggest crush on the girl who works the night shift. Eeeee"

  • You're best bet is to focus on the company itself.

  • I've recently talked to Resha, a hired Snagajob member

  • who got hired at Kohl's during a group interview. Now what they did was they

  • went around the room asked everyone the same question.

  • And when the "Why do you wanna work here" question came up

  • everyone answered with things like: "Honestly I'll do anything I just

  • really need the money."

  • So, to set herself apart, Resha said:

  • I want to work here because I admire your staff's friendliness and

  • I want to be a part of that. So what she did was focus on the company itself

  • and focus on what she admired about them their customer service

  • something they take very seriously and that really set her apart from the rest of the group.

  • What you really want to do is keep your answers about them and how well

  • the two of you can work together. Make sure you do research on the company

  • before you go in for the interview.

  • Take a look around at their website and see if they won any awards

  • maybe for how they treat their employees or how they treat their customers.

  • These are things you can mention specifically when answering that

  • question

  • that can really show that you take your job search seriously and really want

  • this job

  • "I've been a fan of Build-A-Bear for years now and I think this is a great place

  • for me to put my customer service skills to work

  • In fact, I saw on your website that you won an award for being a great place to work

  • and every time I've been in there

  • I've seen how happy your employees were. I would love to join the team.

  • So the three things to answer this question really well are:

  • First, talk about how much you admire the company.

  • Second, talk about what a great fit you would be in this position.

  • And third, show that you've done research on the company itself.

  • So interviewing itself can be a little stressful and some of the best advice we

  • can give you is to practice.

  • Practice, Practice, PRACTICE.

  • It will help ease some of the nerves and you go in with confidence that you know what's coming ahead.
