  • You say, "Hi, my name is Mark, it's nice to meet you."

  • You reply, "Hi Mark, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'm Pete."

  • We also greet by ask people how they are.

  • We say, "Hello, how are you?"

  • We reply, "I'm fine, thank you, how are you?"

  • We often ask, "What do you do for a living?"

  • We reply, "I'm a teacher," or "I work in a computer store," for example.

  • When people speak quickly, ask them to repeat what they say.

  • Say, "I'm sorry, I didn't hear that, would you say it again?"

  • Or, "Would you mind saying that again? I didn't hear what you said."
