• stand for: To support a particular idea, e.g. in politics
• go against: To disagree with or challenge someone
• on the scene: Present at a location, especially where something has happened.
• step back: To move backwards; to move away from something.
• go straight: To continue in the same direction without turning.

• used to: Did regularly before, but don't do now
