  • Hi there, I'm Angela Oberer and this is part three in our yard sale series. Okay, I had

  • a huge successful yard sale the other day with about a 24 hour notice. And not knowing

  • I was going to have a yard sale before 24 hours in advance, I had to act very quickly.

  • It was my first yard sale ever, so I asked all my friends: "What did you do that worked

  • for you when you had a yard sale, what mistakes did you make?" Then what I did was I duplicated

  • all of the things that worked, and I avoided all of the things that didn't work. I know,

  • it sounds really simple, but before you have your yard sale, do your research.

  • Then duplicate the things that work, avoid the things that don't. Really simple right?

  • and it's a good idea.

  • Second of all, want to get a fanny pouch that you can wear on your person. I had pockets

  • in my pants, and the morning of the yard sale, when people would give me $20 dollars I would

  • put the big money in the pocket, but I kept the fanny pouch full of one dollar bills and

  • five dollar bills. Now I went to the bank the day before, and

  • I got one hundred dollars in cash in tiny bills. Five and one dollar bills so that I

  • could easily make change as people bought these small items from my yard.

  • The second thing that I did that was brilliant was, I signed up with square.

  • Square is this little tiny thing, that goes inside your cell phone and it allows you to

  • take credit cards. So when someone comes up, you simply swipe their credit card and the

  • money goes right into your bank account. It's free to set it up, it's just like having

  • a merchant account, you don't actually have to have a business, just a bank account, and

  • they charge 2.75% which is the merchant fee or the transaction fee for swiping the credit card.

  • But if somebody doesn't have the cash and

  • they want to buy stuff from you, now they can because you're advertising that you take

  • credit cards as well as cash. So if you have a yard sale, not only get your cash ready,

  • so that you can give people exact change, but make sure that you take credit cards as well,

  • because guess what? Not only will you get more sales, but that is a good idea.

  • That is a good idea.
