  • - Hey, welcome back to What's Inside.

  • Today we're at our local track

  • and we have a very special ball today, Lincoln.

  • - Heavy, shot put ball.

  • - Alright, PortaPit eight pound,

  • made in India shot put ball.

  • This is gonna be an interesting one.

  • I'm guessing it's just pure steel or metal

  • because it is heavy but before we cut it open,

  • let's have a little fun with it.

  • Portapit.

  • - This is called Shot Put Off the Bleachers.

  • This is called Shot Put Off the Bleachers.

  • - [Voiceover] Ooh, it sunk right in.

  • Oh yeah, that's a pretty good hole there.

  • Nice job.

  • Will this ball roll 50 yards? Let's find out.

  • Alright, 50 yards!

  • Go! Go!

  • No, go!

  • Yeah, that counts!

  • Okay, it's time to cut open this shot put ball.

  • We've had a lot of fun with it

  • and hopefully this saw blade will work to cut it open.

  • This thing is hard steel so think it's gonna work?

  • - Pretty sure, with that saw.

  • - Alright, let's do it.

  • Alright, here we go.

  • (saw cutting)

  • - [Voiceover] It's melting.

  • - [Voiceover] It's totally melting.

  • The ball is so hot that you can see it's bubbling

  • and it's melting.

  • It's making it easier to cut but the thing

  • is melting like crazy.

  • - [Voiceover] Don't touch it, is that hot?

  • - [Voiceover] Woohoo, that is so hot.

  • This blade is getting destroyed.

  • It's falling apart piece by piece

  • from going at this strong metal.

  • I mean, if you look at this blade,

  • it's made to cut metal but this ball

  • is really putting it to the test.

  • And this blade I just bought this morning.

  • It's the second blade that we've put on here

  • so this ball is one tough ball.

  • We're getting very close.

  • Like we just have a little part

  • that we need to connect and we'll have it.

  • There's another blade.

  • - [Voiceover] There goes the other saw.

  • - [Voiceover] Aw, no.

  • - Well, we've blown out two saw blades

  • and now we're gonna take this chisel

  • and see if we can spread it open a little bit.

  • Possibly even break it open just to make it

  • a little easier on the last little part of metal

  • that we have left.

  • So let's hit this thing.

  • (hammer hitting)

  • That's going in there, that's for sure.

  • (gasps)

  • (cheering)

  • We did it!

  • We did it!

  • - Look at that! Still so heavy.

  • - Look at the inside of that!

  • That is shiny from all the blade cutting that we did.

  • - It looks like the saw just polished the outside of it

  • and then this is the rough kind of metal inside of it

  • 'cause we used that chisel kind of thing.

  • There's like a rainbow right there.

  • That's cool, I think.

  • - That is cool, it's actually beautiful.

  • It looks like polished steel.

  • It's heavy so I'm guessing this is four pounds each.

  • We lost a lot of it when we cut it in half.

  • I'm gonna throw this up in the air

  • and see what effect it has on the asphalt.

  • Oh, no. Look at that dent it made.

  • Whoa, this just half of the ball.

  • This is four pounds and look at that on asphalt.

  • No wonder it was so hard to cut this thing open.

  • Mystery solved.

  • That is what's inside of a shot put ball.

  • This ball was very, very fun to cut open.

  • - And tough.

  • - Yes, very tough.

  • We had two saw blades, three different nights

  • we had to cut it open.

  • And what finally got it was that chisel

  • so we appreciate you watching.

  • If you have any other suggestions,

  • please let us know in the comments below

  • And thanks for watching.
