  • Electronic Arts has confirmed that a new Battlefield game will be released next year.

  • During an earnings call for the third quarter of its 2013 fiscal year, EA Labels president

  • Frank Gibeau said EA "will be launching a Battlefield game next yearand said they

  • are "very excited to show you guys more detail on that coming soon."

  • Gibeau didn’t elaborate beyond that or mention Battlefield 4 specifically, though he did

  • add thatwe're not announcing an annualization of Battlefield at this time.”

  • Annualized franchises are those that see a new release every year. Call of Duty and Assassin's

  • Creed are good examples.

  • Now, Battlefield 3 came out back in 2011 and there was no Battlefield game in 2012, so

  • I'm not sure why EA was even addressing annualizing the franchise.

  • During the same earnings call, Gibeau did say that last year's Medal of Honor: Warfighter

  • was a huge disappointment for the company, and the Medal of Honor franchise is being

  • "pulled out of rotation" for now. Presumably, that means we shouldn't expect any Medal of

  • Honor games in the near future.

  • Anyway, back to a new Battlefield.

  • EA actually mistakenly advertised a Battlefield 4 beta as a pre-order promotion for Medal

  • of Honor Warfighter on Origin last year.

  • Later, developer DICE said the beta will be available in other ways and specified that

  • Battlefield 4 will stay in a modern setting.

  • So we'll have to wait and see what this new Battlefield game for next year is. E3 in June

  • is a good time for that. I know a lot of people out there would like Bad Company 3.

  • As soon as we have more info we'll let you know right here at IGN.
