When Dr. Walker brought his 100 people here in 1945,

our nation was standing down from its largest war ever.

The vision, however, was to sustain the culture of

Today, we are challenged as never before,

on the sea, in the air, and space, and in cyberspace.

Thanks to the men and women at ARL Penn State,

- [Voiceover] In 1855, this was set in motion,

As the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania chartered one of

the nation's first colleges of agricultural sciences.

and turned what was once a school of farming

into one of the first land-grant colleges.

We were given a mission that shaped this valley,

70 years ago, as over 100 scientists moved their undersea

research laboratory from Harvard University to Penn State,

one of the world's largest research institutions.

It's about helping our partners fulfill their own missions

by pioneering new technologies in Autonomy and Robotics,

It's about innovations that will not only reduce time

and cost of production, but offer advances for

the ability to repair, strengthen, and extend

It's about engineering the future of America.

And it's become much more than a mission,
