  • beginning of year two, all right?

  • But everything that happened last year,

  • now is erased.

  • And we have to begin our own journey.

  • Everybody's going through this.

  • But not everybody's working their hardest

  • There's teams that could be very talented

  • and they're gonna get away with it.

  • And then there's gonna be those that realize

  • that, hey, if I bring my very best every single day

  • we're not gonna finish seventh

  • in the compus again this year.

  • We're gonna go to the NCAA tournament.

  • That's the bottom line with us this year,

  • that's gotta be it.

  • No short-cuts.

  • Doing the right technique.

  • Being coachable.

  • Every day, okay?

  • Get with your band partner for arm warm-up.

  • Here we go.

  • [Coach Steven] - Before you hit, you go...

  • So, you're arching your back

  • and you're lowering your elbow.

  • Just toss it, keep everything level, reach hit.

  • [Coach Steven] - Pass at your knees.

  • [Coach Steven] - Talk to your partner too,

  • let her know when you're coming.

  • [rock music]

  • - Everybody here, good work,

  • I think we've got a little bit of a sweat going now

  • Reverse three, no setters

  • As soon as the ball goes to the other side,

  • whether you touch it or not,

  • all three are off, next three are on.

  • [rock music]

  • - Keep your spacing.

  • If you're on a wing,

  • don't move into the middle of the court

  • when they're attacking.

  • [rock music]

  • - Hold your position, right?

  • Then that way, as soon as she makes contact, but it's low,

  • if it's in front of you and short,

  • one step, you're already there, okay?

  • [Angela] - By moving to my right,

  • I need to step with my right foot first.

  • I can't cross my body and turn my platform

  • away from the court.

  • If I'm moving to my right,

  • I'm gonna step with my right,

  • maybe I just have to do a two-touch shuffle,

  • and I'm stopped,

  • or maybe I need to step

  • and then cross to get around

  • but we need to be making positive first steps

  • with our passes.

  • [Coach Stevens] - When we get tired,

  • when these pracs start getting long,

  • we gotta pick each other up.

  • But as we start getting towards the end,

  • let's make that our strongest.

  • None of that fifth set mentality.

  • When that other team looks across,

  • and we're still having energy,

  • and pumped up, and going,

  • they're gonna know they're in for a battle.

  • [uplifting music]

  • [Coach Steven] - At away!

  • Good movement.

  • Finish high, Laura. Finish high. Good.

  • Wait a good stat, Mel.

  • Taylor, left. Left tip, left shoulder, Taylor.

  • All right, we have to continue to get better.

  • Keeping the focus on the boring drills.

  • I mean, passing, serving, gets monotonous.

  • It's easy to start cutting corners.

  • Not take that hard first step.

  • Not be focused,

  • when all of a sudden it's twelve minutes of passing.

  • All right, we gotta work through that,

  • cause it takes reps to get better

  • and obviously we gotta get better.

  • Good first practice.

  • You know, good energy,

  • good talking, most of the time.

  • Let's keep working on that.

  • We're gonna make some mistakes.

  • There's gonna be times when both of us call it

  • and we step in. That's better than both of us hesitating.
