  • - Hello, our earth is a truly majestic place.

  • There are countries and locations

  • that are so beautiful that they simply boggle the mind.

  • Most of us probably think of a vacation destination

  • or a wonder of the world when we think

  • of nature's beauty but in fact,

  • some of the most stunning places and events

  • that nature has to offer are probably

  • things that you've never heard of

  • and that's what this video is about.

  • So this week, I'm going to present you

  • with some places and events

  • that are so magnificent,

  • you almost won't believe that they're real.

  • So here they are, the 10 most amazing

  • - [Man] natural phenomena on earth.

  • Number One is volcanic lightening.

  • Volcanic lightening also knows as

  • a dirty thunder storm is exactly

  • what it sounds like.

  • A thunderstorm in the middle of a volcanic eruption.

  • Scientists aren't 100% sure why this occurs

  • but one popular theory is that when

  • a volcano erupts, it ejects positively charged debris

  • into the atmosphere which collides

  • with the negative charges already present

  • creating an electrical charge.

  • Because this even is so dangerous

  • and happens so quickly, it makes it

  • extremely difficult to study let alone

  • get a picture of.

  • However, when they do, it produces

  • a truly spectacular image.

  • Big props to the guys that have the balls

  • to go out there and actually shoot this thing

  • because it is really dangerous.

  • Definitely something I would never do.

  • I'm perfectly comfortable sitting behind

  • my computer screen making YouTube videos.

  • I'm okay with that.

  • - [Man] Number two are super cells.

  • Of the four basic types of thunderstorms

  • a super cell is by far the most dangerous.

  • What separates them from regular storms is,

  • of course, their ominous shape but also

  • the fact that they spin with a persistent updraft

  • giving them the ability to generate tornadoes.

  • Now luckily, super cells are rare

  • but when they do occur, not only are they

  • incredibly destructive but they have

  • the ability to sustain themselves

  • far longer than traditional storms.

  • And now that you know what it is,

  • don't worry it isn't independence day,

  • this isn't aliens, it's just a deadly storm

  • about to ravage your whole town

  • which is less of a reason to worry.

  • - [Man] Number three are fire rainbows.

  • Fire rainbows more properly knows as

  • a circum horizontal arc, are the rarest of all

  • naturally occurring phenomena.

  • Their nickname is a bit of a misnomer

  • as they have nothing to do with either fire or rainbows.

  • They are actually a massive halo

  • of refracted light so massive in fact,

  • that they often appear horizontal

  • with the horizon as you can generally

  • only see pieces of the halo at one time.

  • Their rarity is due to the very specific conditions

  • needed to create them.

  • They only occur when the sun is at least

  • 58 degrees above the horizon at an altitude of 6,096 meters.

  • There must be cirrus clouds in the sky

  • and they must be filled with plate shaped ice crystals.

  • Fire rainbow, kind of sounds like a gay super hero.

  • We don't have one of those yet.

  • Marvel comics, your work is done.

  • I'll be expecting a royalty check in the mail.

  • - [Man] Number four is blue lava.

  • Oh yeah, this is cool.

  • Located exclusively in Java Indonesia,

  • the Kawah Ijen volcano is an

  • active volcano that spews neon blue lava.

  • The volcano contains large amounts

  • of pure sulfur which glows

  • with an icy blue color at night.

  • Surprisingly, minors harvest the sulfur

  • and often carry up to 200 kilograms

  • of it back to their village to sell.

  • This is to spite the incredibly dangerous

  • combination of highly toxic gases

  • and sulfurous flames in the area.

  • Oh and did I mention the slopes

  • of the volcano reach up to 115 degrees Celsius?

  • That's hot.

  • I would just like to point out

  • that as striking as this scene is,

  • this is sulfur and a lot of it

  • so it probably smells like death,

  • taco bell and poopy.

  • Nature's gorgeous wonder.

  • - [Man] Number five are morning glory clouds.

  • Morning glory clouds are a very rare

  • type of cloud that appear as bands

  • of roll clouds across the sky.

  • These clouds can appear at altitudes

  • of up to two kilometers and stretch as far

  • as 1,000 kilometers.

  • They can occur almost anywhere

  • but occur most commonly over Queensland Australia.

  • Interestingly these clouds can achieve

  • wind speeds of up to 60 kilometers an hour

  • which have been known to cause

  • serious turbulence for airplanes

  • when the weather appears clear otherwise.

  • Although not completely understood,

  • researchers suggest that they could

  • be caused by a mixture of sea breezes and high humidity.

  • Really this is just the sky giving itself corn rows.

  • What, Mother Nature can't be fashionable?

  • What's up?

  • - [Man] Number six are light pillars.

  • When the weather gets cold enough,

  • such as in the polar regions,

  • sometimes bright vertical columns

  • of light appear known as light pillars.

  • These beautiful light beams are the result

  • of reflection of natural or artificial light

  • bouncing off of facets of flat ice crystals

  • wafting relatively close to the ground.

  • A good example is Niagara Falls

  • where the mist from the falls causes

  • the phenomena to occur frequently

  • during the winter months.

  • Ah yes, light pillars.

  • It almost makes living under gray skies

  • and freezing cold temperatures

  • for 1/2 the year worth it.

  • Yep, almost.

  • - [Man] Number seven is the Stone Lake.

  • Lake Natron in Tanzania Africa is home

  • to a unique phenomenon which is that

  • any animal that takes a dip in it

  • becomes an instant statue.

  • The reason that this happens is because

  • of the harsh mixture of chemicals in the lake,

  • mainly being sodium carbonate decohydrate

  • and sodium bicarbonate.

  • These chemicals are fed into the lake

  • by a nearby volcano that coats animals

  • as they enter it causing them to solidify shortly after.

  • In fact, sometimes the mineral to water ratio

  • is so high, that the water becomes

  • almost thick to the touch.

  • I obviously feel bad for these teeny, tiny creatures

  • but they make some bad ass statues.

  • I kind of want one for my coffee table.

  • - [Man] Number eight are bio luminescent waves.

  • There are places on earth

  • where the water sparkles bright blue.

  • The most famous of which is

  • the Vaadhoo Island in Maldives.

  • Nicknamed the Sea of Stars,

  • the water there glows bright blue

  • due to the high concentration

  • of marine microbes called phytoplankton.

  • These incredible microbes are bioluminescent,

  • meaning that they generate and emit natural light.

  • It is truly an incredible sight to see

  • and almost looks like something

  • out of the movie Avatar except it's much better

  • because you don't have to deal with

  • creatures having weird tail sex so,

  • yeah, it's definitely better.

  • - [Man] Number nine are frozen methane bubbles.

  • In Alberta Canada is Lake Abraham,

  • a lake filled with hundreds of frozen pockets

  • of methane gas that makes for some beautiful scenery.

  • The bubbles occur when dead organic matter

  • sinks to the bottom of the lake

  • and gets digested by bacteria.

  • When that happens, the bacteria release

  • methane gas that gets trapped by

  • the frozen water and although beautiful,

  • it's also very dangerous as methane

  • is an extremely flammable gas

  • that will easily explode if it comes

  • into contact with a flame.

  • Just to be clear, this is a really cool attraction.

  • I hope I didn't ruin it for you by telling you

  • that the bubbles are just bacteria farts.

  • It is what it is.

  • - [Man] And number 10 is the Salt Flat Mirror.

  • Located in Bolivia is the Salar de Uyuni

  • which is the world's largest salt flat

  • that looks like any other until it rains.

  • During the rainy season the salt

  • is coated with a thin layer of water.

  • Since the rain water has no where to drain

  • it creates a mirror effect that stretches

  • across the flat creating a stunning image

  • of the sky and clouds.

  • This flat was created when a prehistoric lake

  • dried up leaving behind a salty crust.

  • That salty crust is now a popular

  • travel destination where people go

  • to experience what it's like to walk

  • in a fantasy land, awesome.

  • And that's it for this time guys.

  • I hope you enjoyed this video

  • and I just wanted to remind you

  • that I have a second channel where

  • I put up a ton of videos.

  • On that channel I daily blog,

  • I have a series where I open your mail

  • and a lot of other really cool stuff.

  • We have a lot of fun on that channel.
