Subtitles section Play video Print subtitles Today, I'm going to show you how to make a recorder, out of a carrot. 'Toot Toot' Start by taking a carrot, this one measures about 20cm long and 3.5cm in diameter And cut about 5cm off the end Next take a drill bit like this, this one measures 19mm and carefully start drilling into the end of the carrot. You can do this all by hand, or if you have an electric drill you can use that. Take it slowly, be careful not to hurt yourself, and make sure you dont break through the side of the carrot. Clean all the debris out, you can wash it under the tap if you need to Then take a sharp knife and make a cut roughly 1 inch down from the top roughly 1cm deep. Then drop the knife back another inch, and cut a wedge out of the carrot. Keep going untill you have something which looks like this. Next we need to make a plug to fit inside the bottom part of the mouthpiece So take the carrot tip we cut off earlier, cut off the very end And usig your knife, carefully slice off bits until it makes a good tight plug into the mouthpiece. Next cut a small flat at the edge of the plug and slide it into the mouthpiece So the flat lines up with the whistle cut, like this. We should now get a whistle. 'Toot Toot' If you want to you can cut away the back of the carrot to form a more comfortable mouthpiece. Next use a 5mm drill bit to make a couple of holes into the carrot. I did the top hole 4cm down from the whistle cut, and the next one 2.5cm below that. 'Tune' And there we have it, our finished carrot recorder. You may need to adjust the plug slightly to get all the notes And once you've got a good understanding of how it all works, you can make something a little more complicated.
