A No Kings rally in New York was joined by one of America's most celebrated actors and one of President Trump's fiercest critics, Robert De Niro.

Fifty years ago, a young Robert De Niro appeared in the iconic movie Taxi Driver.

To many, the film confirmed his status as one of the greatest actors of his generation.

Which label is most important to you now at this point in life?

I just see what's been going on the last ten years in this country with Trump.

And we've got to, you know, we've got to do something.

It's people think, you know, you thought this would work, that would work, the last election would work.

No, it's we've got to do something, and that's the idea with this No Kings thing.

The White House spokesperson characterized No Kings activities as Trump derangement therapy sessions.

Not everyone welcomes the idea of actors using their celebrity status to advance their political views.

It appears that is not a concern of Robert De Niro, who sees the struggle in almost desperate terms.

I think more people are starting to see that with this guy, it gets worse and worse and worse every day.

The next thing is what he'll do is put troops on the ground.

And we have to stand up to him, to the regime, fight it with everything.

We just got to fight it, you know, peacefully, but we have to resist.

While many No Kings protesters welcome Robert De Niro's involvement in the movement, President Trump has little time for De Niro, once describing him as a second-rate actor.

But before his White House days, it was reported that one of President Trump's favorite films was Goodfellas, in which Robert De Niro played a mentor-like mobster figure.

Donald Trump thinks that Goodfellas is one of his favorite movies.
