I am Ryan Michelle Bathay, and, um, huh, this is a bittersweet day for me because it's the final day of my Paradise Podcast hosting duties.

The imperative

So if for some reason you haven't watched the finale, go do that, because spoilers.

We've got the incredible Juliane Nicholson here with us to unpack that finish and to help us say farewell to one of the greatest all-time villains of villain- villainry canon, Juliane.

Um, yeah, I don't even know where to start.

I don't even know how to start after seeing that finish.

I mean, I think Dan had, had this idea from the beginning of the season.

Even I didn't get the episode until well into the season, you know, of how it would all wind up for her.

I mean, it's such a beautiful ending, and

I love it because I feel like, you know, I love Sinatra, and

she was given such a hard time by everyone, which I understand, in season 1.

But I feel like the way Dan's written her, like, to, to end her in with, like, the ultimate, um, sacrifice felt like a fitting a fitting way to say goodbye, and

And I when I watched it, I, like, I cried.

I was still, like, I found it very, um, moving, yeah, to watch this woman, um, go down with the ship.

In season 1, when you use Xavier's child as collateral, especially as someone who should know if anybody should know better, you should know better, and

without blinking, without hesitation, you send the worst of the worst after Xavier's child, and

And then, you know, when, when, when, when Xavier has the gun trained on you, I was like, "Well, this is gonna be satisfying," right?

It was like, "Bathay, Natra." What the fuck did you do?

We think in season 1 that Paradise is your, you know, pièce de résistance.

Which I had no we had no idea about when we were filming season 1.

That was, like, that was what I knew, and it was about Paradise, and

she's creating this thing for people when, when that day happens, which it does.

then Dan was like, "Oh, so while that was happening, also this was happening," and then we, you know, heard about, um, quantum physics and, uh, much more of, um, like, sci-fi elements.

Yeah, which starts do, did you do you can you tell us what you what Sinatra/Juliane thinks Alex is?

Because I don't know that we've ever gotten from anyone in this podcast a real, like, "What is Alex?" So for real.

So I, I don't know, really, because honestly, Dan would tell us, the writers would tell us, because for that end, I would just be like, "Okay." Um, but

there it's like I, I had, like, a loose understanding, but, you know, I wouldn't want to be tested on it.

But what I will then say is, let's go back to what do you know, and

what can you help us now that we know how it all ends up, in terms of the audience and your and Alex being your endgame?

Do you know what you were trying to get or what the technology was that the that the professor had that you needed to offset?

So no, there's a there's a whole there's those scenes, right, with, um, Dylan in the first couple of episodes where he's with that professor, and

they're, like I think they're building something, but

I don't honestly, I just was like, "Okay, that sounds good.

I don't know what that means." But you knew that you needed it in the bunker.

I knew that I needed it to get this guy when you when you find when you meet Billy Pace for the first time.

Because oh, because also, as the guy said, you know, when the shit hits the fan in season 1 and the world the world where you find us and the world is, like, you know, apocalypse out there, and

then as the doctor tells us or the guy that I speak with in, in, um, episode 3, where he's like, you know, "Okay, then the sun comes out and things start growing again," and you think but then it becomes even worse, and, like, oceans freeze and the sun goes black, and

so it gets even worse than what initially happens.

Anybody still around for that will wish they died on the very first day.

And so we need Alex to sort of, like, help the world.

He he there's that one and it's just one little sentence, and

he's like, "Just when you think it's safe to go back in the water," basically.

You're gonna wish that you just died on the first day.

Because you think it's, "Oh, look, the sun's coming out, and

we can eat this plant and this," and then it's just gonna then it just gets it, like, doubles down, and

the you know, there's no oxygen, and it just gets worse.

Okay, Alex is gonna help we know Alex is gonna help with that somehow, and

you're again, listen, I take everything back.

Everything you did was try to you're just trying to save the planet.

Just trying to do the and when everybody else has done the wrong thing, you know what I mean?

Really, at the end of the day, like, that's the other that's the flip side of this whole thing, is that everyone else has done the wrong thing up until this point, and

you're left kinda Sinatra's the the one billionaire who's left holding the bag.

Those other fools aren't doing anything sitting around the table?
