Since 1932, bear markets have come around, on average, every 4 to 5 years.

They typically last about 289 days—just under 10 months.

But bull markets—the periods where the market is going up—have historically lasted around 965 days on average.

That's more than 3 times as long as the bear markets.

The third type is a full market collapse—a drop of 30% or more—often happening very quickly.

Think the dot-com crash from 2000 to 2002, where the NASDAQ lost nearly 80% of its value.
