Mr. Liz, I have struggled in vain and I can bear it no longer.

That's the perfect way to describe this couple in the film Pride and Prejudice.

At first, Elizabeth thinks Darcy is rude and full of pride.

He sees her as not good enough for him or beneath his social standing.

That's why the title makes perfect Pride thinking you are better than others, and

prejudice judging someone before knowing them well.

One of the most memorable moments from their story happens in the rain.

When Mr. Darcy tells Elizabeth he loves her and asks her to marry him, only to be rejected.

But you can say yes to learning with today's lesson.

We'll see many useful expressions in the scene, like to put something aside in vain and to bear something and many, many others.

So Darcy says he tried to ignore his feelings for Elizabeth, but he can't do it anymore.

The word bear means here to endure or put up with something difficult or painful.

This situation has become unbearable for him.

So he says the past few months have been a torment that is very difficult for him, and

In vain means without success, success or without achieving the desired result.

Let's see how these words can be used in a different context.

Explorers for hundreds of years have been searching for it in vain.

And, well, ever since we moved here to the jungle, we've been trying to find it.

Not knowing makes it feel like torment to turn over in your mind the events of, of a mere conversation.

To look at all of the evidence and still not be sure it is a pleasing, stimulating, thrilling kind of torment.

I have fought against my better judgment, my family's expectation.

Darcy says he's ready to ignore or put aside his better judgment, his family expectations, and

the fact that Elizabeth comes from a lower social class.

His rank is very high because he's wealthy and comes from an important family.

When he mentions the inferiority of your birth, he means that Elizabeth's social status is lower than his.

But again, he decides to put aside these differences.

But you're gonna have to all come together, each of you working together with a level of commitment and collaboration, Putting aside petty squabbles if you want to fix what my generation broke.

I fought against my better judgment, my family's expectation.

When you go against your better judgment, as Darcy says it, it means you do something, even though you know it might not be a good idea.

Oogway saw greatness in you, Po, against my better judgment, more than you can see in yourself.

So, despite all these reasons, Darcy loves Elizabeth most ardently, meaning his love for her is deep and passionate.
