But what if the story that we told ourselves is outdated?

This is a new Xiaomi SU7, an electric car built not just to transport, but

to connect, to challenge everything we thought we knew about what a mainstream EV sedan could be.

Remember when Apple were rumored to be creating an EV and people kind of question whether a tech company could really build a car?

Well, the same thing happened with Xiaomi.

Known for smartphones and smart home devices, they jump into the automotive world, raised some eyebrows.

They even denied making a car at one point.

Then came the SU7, a tech driven, sporty EV at reasonable price point.

They managed to secure orders on launch to fill out one year's worth of production.

China was all in on the Xiaomi revolution.

This new SU7 follows the successes of the first.

First, through Xiaomi's seamless ecosystem, integrating with your smart home and smart devices beyond just your phone.

It's a hub, a part of your daily routine, making your life easier without you even lifting a finger.

Or automated smart home scenarios able to be triggered just with the car.

But China is a tech centric, tech obsessed society, so it's no wonder that Xiaomi leaned into its ecosystem and tech strengths.

It's a car that makes driving feel engaging, responsive and exciting.

Whether it's zipping through the city or carving up an open road, the SU7 brings a level of driving enjoyment and that most other EVs can't match.

But when the SU7 launched, Western media was obsessed with the way that this thing looked, slammed, jeered and laughed at for its Porsche styling.

And while I can't deny the styling criticisms, While Western media heckled from the stands, they missed the magic not being able to get behind the wheel of this thing when they did finally get to drive it about six months ago.

Boy, did the sentiment around the SU7 change.

This updated Xiaomi SU7's exterior remains largely unchanged.

We do get some new colors this time around, like this coastal blue with black wing mirrors.

Although this has the optional carbon pack.

We also get new wheels wrapped in wider rubber at the rear and behind them, updated brakes.

And now all models of the SU7 get fixed caliper four piston Brembo brakes.

Most of the updates you can't garner from the exterior.

I guess you could say they're More than skin deep like the new automatically opening frunk, which you can open a total of eight ways.

You could use the external voice assistant, inside voices and the screen, a magic button or this handy dandy little button on the outside.

And I did see online people thinking that this is bigger than the last SU7, but it isn't.

It's the same 105 liters, but it's a decently large frunk.

The biggest change externally gone are flush door handles.

In line with changing government regulation after a series of high profile EV crashes where door handles failed to pop out, Xiaomi has gone to extraordinary lengths this time around for the updated SU7.

Xiaomi talks a lot about the redundancies of these handles.

Number one, they are actually mechanical as well as being able to be just popped open electronically.

But they also have triple redundancy for power.

So as well as the normal source of power, there's an additional 12 volt up front.

And if those both fail or aren't working, there's a small little battery mounted in the back of the car that will supply power to these.

But like I said, failing all that, they are actually mechanical.

I already did a full review of the original Sue 7, so I don't want to go over everything again and just focus on on the things that have changed.

Now actually for this SU7 Max, it stays exactly the same.

However, the standard and pro in the original SU7 had 517 liters, but

now those two have the same 493 liters as the SU7 Max.

But as a functional trunk, I mean, it's long, not necessarily the tallest, but

you can put those seats down in the rear if you need more space.

There's a lot of nitty gritty details of improvement in here, but

the end result is something that looks and feels more premium than the original SU7.

The headlines in here are these quilted seats and quilted door cars.

The driver's seat now gets 18 way adjustment including thigh support as well.

You also have triple layer ambient lighting where it was just here before.

You now get it here, here and down below.

You also got metal accenting all around the center console and on buttons and things like that.

Some of it real metal and most of it just metal look, but

Now basically this whole interior just feels more mature than before.

The biggest departure in terms of style up here in the front cockpit has to be the center console in the original SU7 you had these toggle switches down the driver's side.

This feels more balanced, more like an all rounder.

Especially if you get the optional zero gravity seat for the passenger.

Then yeah, this feels more suited to everybody in here, not just focused on the driver.

Me personally, I like the original kind of driver focused interior, but

I can see the appeal of something like this.

The screen is the same as the old SU7 but I mean it's still super slick.

I mean what would you expect from Xiaomi with their know how in OS's for their laptops and smartphones.

In fact this actually runs a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile chip for all of the entertainment features in here.

And I tell you what, you wouldn't notice that this is not running an 8295.

You still do get that cool rotating instrument panel though which I love.

And in this model this updated multifunction steering wheel still retains the two little toggles to kind of switch between driving modes and engage the ADAs.

And this one even has the carbon fiber and alcantara interior in here.

An option the but I can see it being popular but like I said, a lot of small improvements.

I'm not going to go into depth about the wraparound ambient lighting being class leading length at over 3.6 m or that the sub pumps base 30 Hz lower than before or I kid you not, the makeup mirror is 6% larger.

But there are other things that you do get like dual phone induction chargers and on the Max they're up to 80 watt, a smart fragrance system and more clear bright red mechanical emergency handles.

You also get more speakers this time around.

Standard and pro models get an additional four speakers and the SU7 Max gets the 25 speaker spatial audio system as standard.

The same back here, no major changes, small little tweaks which means I still have the same amount of knee and headroom sat behind myself.

A decent amount of knee room and and headroom.

You know this is a sports sedan so you can't expect too much.

You do get the quilted seats back here the same as in the front.

And they mentioned something about the wings of these seats being 20mm bigger than before.

You can still get a fridge back here as well because everybody needs a fridge in a sedan.

You also get the smart ports on the backs of the seats where you can clip in and a Xiaomi pad with a smart connector and it will automatically sync up with the car's infotainment system and you can use it to control different parts of the car.

However, the biggest upgrade or the biggest change back here probably is something they they took out of the U7, which is this removable small rear display which you can use to change, well, the AC seating options, the sat nav music, and

So again, this is a kind of lots of small tweaks on the exterior and the interior.

Most of the improvements are, you know, deeper within the car itself.

Another change though, in this interior is this glass roof is no longer one single panel.

And therefore you now have the functionality where you can decide if you want both pieces of glass darkened or if you just want the rear darkened, then you can do that independently.

You still have the magnetic little buttons you can place around the cabin and assign a task.
