I think what is so inspiring for me is the fact that she qualified as a doctor during a time when women were not allowed to study medicine.

The Society of Apothecaries ruled out allowing women to qualify.

And the way that she got the qualification was to build up all these credits in anatomy and dissection and pass her exams with flying colours, and

so they had absolutely no choice but to qualify her.

And as soon as she got that qualification, the Society of Apothecaries blocked any other women from getting those qualifications.

So she was a trailblazer, but also highlighted the fact that they weren't going to change.

This location is where she lived, but she also set up consultation rooms, and

those consultation rooms grew into a hospital on Seymour street around the corner, which then grew into an even bigger hospital for women on Euston Road.

And one year after her death in 1918, that hospital became known as the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Hospital for Women.

The fact that she did all of this despite the odds, despite the rules, I find her truly inspiring.
