It's Jennifer with a two for Tuesday homophone lesson and a bonus word.

So two for Tuesday is a homophone lesson.

Those are words pronounced exactly the same way.

They just have different spellings and different meanings.

We have the word descent and descent today.

So descent means to disagree or to have a different opinion, especially in a group.

Or it could mean, like where you come from in terms of your ancestors.

Decent is a very confusing word with this whole set of words.

And decent means good enough, acceptable or polite.

So there's a word stress shift with descent.

That's why we're going to talk about that in a minute.

Let's talk about descent, our homophones.

To say these words correctly, we are going to start with the D or D syllable pretty much is the same, as long as it is short and quick and unstressed and you have a relaxed mouth.

To pronounce syllable number one, start with that D D, basically, as you say the D sound and explode the air.

That adds enough of the vowel and you're all set with that syllable, unstressed D, D.

For syllable number two, Stunt, we are going to start with that S.

The tip of your tongue is behind your front teeth.

And we're going to say that short E sound, the E sound.

The tip of my tongue is just peeking out between my top and my bottom teeth and my tongue is relatively flat in my mouth.

Touch the teeth with the tongue for the N.

Air moves out of the nose and then release the air by pulling the tongue down.

Again, I'm stressing syllable number two now for decent, we are going to stress syllable number one.
