President Trump's State of the Union address is just hours away.

With me now is CNN chief data analyst Harry Ent.

A long speech to Congress by President Trump isn't that unusual, is it?

I mean, but now he's telling us it's going to be long.

So it could be really, it could be the greatest, longest speech in American history.

You know, I'm going to paraphrase my cousin Vinnie, when I heard that Trump was going to give a long speech, what a freaking surprise that was.

I mean, hello, President addresses to Congress.

The term average, the average for president since 1964, 54 minutes.

Donald Trump over the course of his two presidencies.

He goes, on average, more than 26 minutes, more than 25 minutes longer than the average president.

So when he says, oh, it's going to be a long loan, well, that fits with history.

I thought you were going to do the Marisa Tomei thing.

Anyway, is there any sign that Trump's speeches are actually, though, getting shorter?

Obviously, he says this isn't going to be long, but shorter over time or.

No, no, there's no sign that it's getting shorter.

He's telegraphing exactly what's been happening in the past.

Because why don't we just take a look here.

The last one was more than an hour and a half.

Blew past the previous record belonging to William Jefferson Clinton.

He went 99 minutes last year, which wasn't technically a State of the Union address, by the way, but

it was still an address to a joint session of Congress.

So we'll see if he's able to break the record for any, any address to a joint session of Congress that he himself set a year ago.

And when it comes to making us listen to him for a longer period of time, he does a very good job of breaking those records.

He's going longer while people have shorter attention spans.

Because we know some Democrats are not even going to show up for this in person.

Who typically watches State of the Union speeches?

Yeah, for Democrats, sometimes less is more when it comes to President Trump, but

And those are the people who actually tune in to watch these speeches.

He's not actually going after independence.

Just share in 2025 who identified as GOP.

Watch Trump Trump's speech to Congress, 48% of those were Republicans compared to just 32% of Americans overall.

So what you're dealing with is an audience.

And the home crowd loves to hear Donald Trump talk.

And that is probably what he'll be doing tonight, is talking to that home crowd and go on for a very, very long period of time.

When it comes to State of the Union, if Donald Trump likes to do one thing, it's he likes to hear himself talk.

And as someone who likes to hear himself talk, I can empathize with the man.

Let's get to CNN as Elena Train live at the White House this morning, where I have to believe, Elena, preparations are underway.

And he also spent a good portion of yesterday, I'm told, the president preparing for tonight as well.

I do just want to go back to that clip you played of the president with him saying it's likely to be a long speech.

I'd remind you that last year he gave an address to Congress.

It wasn't an official State of the Union address, but essentially it was.

And that was 90 minutes him saying that this is going to be a long speech tonight.

It could ultimately hit the 100 minute mark.

But look, he's really planning to tick through what he deems as his administration's biggest accomplishments from his first year in office.

A lot of that is going to be him talking about his policies that he ushered in last year with Congress, you know, the tax cuts included in that.

I'm told he's expected to talk about what he's been doing to try and lower prescription drug prices.

But a lot of this as well is going to be kind of marking a big milestone this year for America, America's 250th anniversary, something that the president has been very much hyped up about in his second term.

And a lot of that is going to be him trying to say that he's ushering in this new era of exceptionalism.

However, one of the key questions, of course, is how he actually talks about the issues that Americans want him to to be talking about.

And the big one is going to be the economy and affordability.

That is an issue that his team here at the White House, his top advisers in that building behind me, John, have been trying to get him to stay not only on message but on the right message.

And I'm very much keen to see how he talks about that tonight, particularly when you see recent polling showing that a lot of Americans are not happy with his handling of the economy.

A recent poll from CNN actually said 57% are very much eager to hear about him talk about the economy tonight.

From what I've been told from my sources, he's expected to kind of talk through and specifically actually talk about American stories that he believes kind of props him up on this issue.

But another thing I'll be watching for, of course, is the people that he's going to have in front of him.

You mentioned the Supreme Court, that tariff decision on just Friday where they really rebuked him.

A lot of those justices are going to be in front of him.

He's going to have to deal with that, as well as a lot of Republicans who have been pushing back on some of his key policies.

On all of that, though, will be wrapped into this speech tonight as he tries to tout what he believes was a great first year in office.

Some Democrats are going to boycott the speech.

And House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries says he expects those who do attend will show some decorum.

It's my expectation that members who choose to attend will be there in silent defiance, of course, skeptical of the remarks that the president is going to try to deliver in terms of his spin.

But he's not going to be able to spin his way out of the failures that have occurred over the last 400 days or so.

Jackie Kucinich, the Washington bureau chief for the Boston Globe, where it has been freezing.

But luckily you're both in D.C. so first to you, Margaret.

The latest CNN poll has President Trump at 36% approval rating.

TRUMP says it's going to be a long speech because he says we have so much to talk about and he praised his own economy.

What do you expect to hear in that speech?

Well, on the issue, certainly, I expect him to make a forceful defense of his approach towards the economy and towards tariffs and to blame other people, namely his political opponents, for things that aren't working into position, successes in terms of numbers that we've heard him talk about already, the Dow, so on and so forth.

But I think the question is how much will he stick to the facts and will those facts check out with the fact checkers and how much will it become personalized?

And how will that impact Republicans who are standing for office in the midterms?
