Much like the doubt about the cybertruck before it was released, a lot of people doubted the Tesla Cybercap.

But yesterday, the first Cyber Cab actually rolled off of the production line at Tesla.

No steering wheel, no pedals, and if Elon is right, no more human drivers.

We are just eight weeks away from volume production of the Cyber Cab beginning, which of course will be slow at first.

But here is the crazy part, the part that I didn't think was going to happen.

let's be specific here, that a delivery will happen to a customer on of the Tesla Cyber Cab.

And on top of that, it's going to be under $30,000.

That means marques Brownlee's bet to shave his head on camera is on the line.

Today we're going to talk about the production reality, the $30,000 price tag, and

the insanely bold bet that Tesla is making on a car that literally cannot be taken over by a person if the software has a failure.

Now people have been posting on X Cybercabs driving in multiple different cities in the US including as far away as Chicago.

We've seen Tesla doing the testing in Alaska, which is one of the last things they do before release of a vehicle.

Of course they're driving around in Austin as well.

But protot are easy and production is hard and seeing the first Cyber Cab actually roll off the Cyber Cab production line is a huge milestone.

It seems like this thing is actually happening.

When I saw the Cyber Cab live a few years ago, I kind of couldn't believe that it was going to be coming anytime soon.

I mean, you got to think back to how FSD was driving a few years ago.

it still made a lot of mistakes and needed a lot of human intervention.

And seeing that vehicle sitting there with no steering wheel, no pedals, two large seats, a huge center display for the person to consume entertainment because they won't actually be Dr.

Still, even if I was thinking far future, and

as of now, all of the Cyber Cabs we've seen driving around, they have a steering wheel, they have pedals, they're actually not even self driving.

The human is in the driver's seat from Tesla driving these pre production units around.

And yes, of course this can all be changed over time.

The steering wheels are kind of jankily in there.

It doesn't look like a fixed actual part of the vehicle.

They're just there for this initial Testing.

But again, just actually imagining these vehicles out on the street with no way to take over.

It's just, it's hard to wrap your mind around.

But yesterday in Texas marks the beginning of what Tesla calls the unboxed manufacturing era.

But how are they going to go from celebrating a photo of one car to a new vehicle every 10 seconds?

Because Tesla is saying that this is going to be their most produced car ever by far.

In case you've been living inside of a rock, it is a no steering wheel, no pedals, fully autonomous, only two seater robotaxi, purpose built to be a robo taxi.

It has an estimated 35 kilowatt hour battery, about 200 miles of range, and

it is mostly going to be charged wirelessly through inductive charging.

Now we've seen the pre production units definitely plug in, but

the plan is to have this vehicle just wireless charging so you don't again need a human to do anything.

The car can drive from point A to point B.

It can drive itself to the wireless charger, park over the wireless charger and get charged up.

The plan is for volume production to start in April, which is just about eight weeks away.

And Tesla is targeting one unit every 10 seconds.

Now here is the crazier part for me and some of the biggest news we just got.

Holmar's blog over on X posted a picture of MKBHD with his head shaved, which refers back to the bet he made.

And what a lot of people forget is a big part of his bet is that Tesla was not going to sell one of these vehicles to a customer under $30,000.

Not just the self driving part, we're going to have this vehicle out for $30,000 before 2027.

If they do, let's say they do, I will shave my head on camera because I'm that confident they won't do it.

But the fact that Elon said on stage that people will be able to buy these cars for themselves to own and use however they want.

Now how are you going to use it if you buy the car?

And then you'd have to buy full self driving, but

you can't buy full self driving anymore, so now you'll have this permanent subscription on your car for the life of the vehicle.

But whatever that is an aspect to think about, the fact is it didn't seem like this was really going to be a consumer purchasable car.

But Elon responded and said going to happen with a laughing emoji but of course everyone said what's going to happen?

Well, after that, Dylan Loomis posted and said Elon, to be clear, the bet was that Tesla wouldn't sell a Cyber Cab to a customer for 30,000 or less before 2027.

Are you saying that specifically is going to happen?

And you know, with Elon we have to kind of guess and infer a lot of things.

But yes, he was very clear and specifically responded saying that yes, a Cyber Cab would be sold to a customer for 2027 for less than $30,000.

Now is Tesla going to do some publicity stunt where they just sell one cybercap to somebody?

I don't think though that that's kind of what Elon is responding to and kind of the thought process he's going with when he's responding to this because while on a technicality that would qualify, but

that would be pretty lame to sell one single vehicle to like somebody in the company just so you can win this little bet.

Now one funny aspect of this is that back in 2016 Elon had this vision and we know ever since then he's been saying every year, every other year that FSD will be done by the end of the year and people will have self driving cars.

But he had the vision back then that these cars would be coming with no steering wheel and no pedals.

And he actually was laughed at back then.

Auxiliary steering wheel that only pops out when you need to take manual control for whatever reason.

But probably if you go long, long term, my guess is that there isn't a steering wheel in most cars.

It would be something that you would have to special order or something like that.

I do want to be clear, like predictions are not endorsements, you know.

So I'm not saying that this would be a good or a bad thing.

I'm just saying that this is probably what will occur.

This is pattern recognition and anticipating what's going to happen next.

I mean, I think it's sort of like elevators used to have a manual elevator operator and you'd have somebody would be sort of moving the lever and be able to do fine tune adjustments with the elevator for each floor.

Now there's no manual controller for elevators.

Yeah, I think it's going to seem the same way for cars now at this point, to me it seems a bit inevitable that somebody, even if it's not.

Tesla is going to have self driving vehicles that are going to be out there mostly for commercial use, to use as a taxi, not to actually own.

They do hundreds of thousands of miles without an issue, although they technically still have the steering wheel in there.

But it's great to see the first cyber cab actually roll off the production line.

This is Tesla's most extreme hardware commitment.

FSD is not even solved without the janky steering wheel shoved inside the car.

This car literally can't even be driven and they're already producing it.

Tesla and probably more specifically Elon are betting everything that FSD is going to be solved really within the next few months here, six months at the most.

So while we experience FSD in our cars, and

yes, we're very impressed, it's not at a level where you could go to sleep or let the car drive without a human in it, but

Tesla thinks it's going to be there very soon.

And here's our reality check from the Robotaxi down in Austin and also kind of in California, but

those have people in the driver's seat, so it's not really as impressive.

There's currently about 200 vehicles in the Austin robo taxi program, with most of them in San Francisco with a monitor in the driver's seat.

There have been 14 total crashes since June of 2025, which is about one per 57,000 miles.
