US President Donald Trump has been presiding over the first meeting of his controversial Board of peace in Washington, D.C.

Those attending promised a bright future for the strip, pledging money, peacekeeping, troops and investment.

The board brings together representatives from more than two dozen nations aiming to resolve global conflicts.

But many countries are absent, including key European allies.

The Board of Peace has also been criticized by governments who worry it will undermine the United Nations.

Trump says he will make sure that the UN remains viable.

This meeting today is proof, with determined leadership, nothing is impossible.

When I took office, the war in Gaza was raging with thousands of people being killed and no end in sight.

Today, thanks to unrelenting diplomacy and the commitment of many of the great people in this room, we have 59 countries signed up on Gaza.

But all the people, many, really so many in this room, the war in Gaza is over.

I think they're going to give up their weapons, which is what they promised.

If they don't, it'll be, you know, they'll be harshly met.

You know, all this stuff like, they don't mind dying.

Everybody would say, oh, they don't mind dying.

The ceasefire was held and every last remaining hostage, both living and dead, has been returned back home.

Let's go straight to our White House correspondent, Kimberly Halkett, who joins us now from Washington, dc.

Kimberly, the President says this will be one of the most consequential things a part of and pledged big money for this fund for rebuilding and reconstructing Gaza.

What more can you tell us about what came out of this meeting?

Yeah, well, first of all, what was a Surprise was the $10 billion pledge by the United States, the US president announcing it, but

providing very few details of how that money will be spent, leaving most people guessing that it was for reconstruction.

But again, it's not clear if this is being given to the board directly to Gaza.

So certainly the White House is going to need to follow up with more detail.

And I think that is just sort of indicative of this meeting in and of itself.

The fact that this was largely symbolic as the first inaugural meeting, there wasn't a lot of concretes that were laid out.

For example, while we do know the numbers that the board is looking for in terms of the international stabilization force in order to provide security, again, how that will work, what the further plans are are still unclear.

And I think it's important to also note in all of this that while the US President said at the beginning of his speech that peace is an easy word to say but hard to produce, the US President himself, while talking about this Board of Peace, is himself continuing to not only threaten Hamas if it does not fully disappear arm, as we heard in that clip you just played, but

also Iran, where the Board of Peace is not only looking at options for how to make sure there is stability in Gaza, but

also beyond whether it is dearming or rather limiting the nuclear program of Iran or even ending the war in Ukraine.

This Board of Peace is designed for a number of different global issues.

And again, when it comes to the concrete, it's very limited.

But what I think is important to note is again, this is called the Board of Peace.

And the US President as its chair is simultaneously amassing a large military presence right outside of Iran and threatening that should it not limit its nuclear program and halt enrichment in about 10 days, that bad things, in his words, will happen.

And now let's go to Hani Mahmood, who joins us now live from Gaza City.

Hani, you have now had the chance to listen to the plans and the hopes that we heard in Washington.

What is your reaction to it on the ground?

People are hopeful that this is going to be implemented.

The problem with this narrative, it's been going on forever, not just the past four months, but

before that the month leading to the cease fire.

And but since the cease fire was signed, there were many things that should have happened, should have been implemented as paving the way to this particular moment.

But right now, look, we're talking about things that for a lot of people here seem to be very ideal.

They are not, they're going to be out of reach because they are part of larger pledges and promises while on the ground daily reality, people what they, what they want, the priorities that they want with them going on with their life.

For example, on the second day of Ramadan, large number of Gaza still in ruins, thousands and thousands of Palestinians are still displaced inside either temporary shelters, temporary spaces or worn out tents that should have ended during phase one of the ceasefire as people should have been allowed to go back to their homes and the areas that are controlled now by the Israeli military.

Better now as the the yellow line Also aid should have been allowed in an amount that is sufficient to respond to the greater needs created by these months of devastation and starvation.

Movement through the Rafah crossing should have at least be coupled with the or abiding by the capacity and the pace was announced.

None of this is happening at the full capacity it was announced whatsoever.

Movement through the Rapah Crossing is 30% or a little over 30% moving through the crossing.

The other for aid that it trucks it's about 29, 25, 29% and not enough, let alone there are larger section excluded from this medical supplies for example other necessary equipment to keep hospital operating.

Many of the people here broke their fast by just setting up starting fire, by using wood, by using plastic and cardboard because cooking gas is not available.

This is the daily realities and it became very ironic when we talked to people about their expectation.

They said is this going to bring in more cooking gas, more fuel?

Is it going to send me back to my house that I was removed from?

These are the realities people are talking about.

Yeah, those are the important things to people on the ground where you are right now.
