Discovery has rejected Paramount Skydance's latest hostile takeover bid, but

the Hollywood major said Tuesday it's giving Paramount another seven days to come up with a better offer.

The latest buyout proposal for the owner of HBO Max and the Harry Potter franchise was for $30 a share, Warners said.

Paramount informally pitched an even higher share price, $31 a share, which apparently got the board to listen.

However, Tuesday's response still makes it clear Warners prefers a deal already agreed with Netflix.

Paramount now has until February 23rd to submit its best and final offer.

Rival bidder Netflix is allowed to match the proposal under the terms of their merger agreement, Warners added.

An unidentified Paramount financial advisor said their offer would be raised to $31 a share if they agreed to open negotiations.

Paramount's current offer for the whole company comes to $108.4 billion, while Netflix is offering $82.7 billion for just its studio and streaming businesses.

Warners has consistently rejected Paramount offers to buy the company.

It's currently moving forward with a vote on Netflix's bid, and

shareholders will have their say on March 20 on the proposed merger.
