This is the incredible story of Hand in Hand school.

I am here in Israel, a country with many problems.

Schools for religious Jews, schools for non religious Jews, and schools for Arabs.

I went to an Arab school, which means 100% of my classmates, we're Arab.

We have separate education and separate lives.

And you wonder why we grow up and hate each other.

25 years ago, someone wanted to change this to build a small school for both Jews and and Arabs in the same classroom.

People said Hand in hand was a crazy idea.

No one wanted Jews and Arabs to study together.

They imagined a whole new type of classroom.

I'm a Jewish teacher, I'm an Arab teacher.

One teacher that speaks Hebrew, another that speaks Arabic.

The students, they mixed Jews and Arabs at a young age.

The education they taught, the Arab side and the Jewish side of history.

Hand in Hand is funded by donors around the world.

They want to see a different Israeli society.

A society that builds bridges instead of divisions.

They started with 50 students and one classroom, but now they're exploding with 2,000 students and six schools.

From a naive, crazy idea that would quote, unquote, never work.

We've turned this dream into a reality here.

I found two girls that can speak each other's language.

She is Jewish, but she can speak Arabic and she is Arab and she can speak Hebrew.

You don't understand how rare this is to find.

They come here as kids and graduate as adults and become the most tolerant humans on the planet.

When you get to know the person, you will no longer be afraid.

So that's why I like the idea of our school.

Because we have here Jew and Arab and we get to know each other.

Therefore we won't be afraid of each other.

This school is so magical that extremists wanted to stop it.

Three right wing extremists attacked our school and set fire to it On a Saturday night.

It burned down part of the first grade classrooms.

They burned one of its classrooms and wrote that coexistence with the enemy is impossible.

Not only did every single child come to school the next day, but

over a thousand people came that morning to express solidarity with Hand In Hand.

This is why we must double down and support this school.

There is just kids who want to make friends.

We're not destined forever to live in conflict and hatred.

That we can build models of trust and understanding and partnership.

A school that doesn't just teach math, physics and engineering.

Because tolerance is the best lesson we can give to our kids.
