Well, in this video, I'm going to teach you 16 real English expressions that native British people use every single day.

And in fact, this is a list of expressions that I use pretty much all the time.

And these are expressions most learners never learn in school.

Now, these aren't boring textbook phrases, they are dangerous daily British English phrases that you'll hear at work, in shops, in casual conversations and even in British TV shows and series.

So whether you're preparing for life in the uk, you know, trying to improve your speaking skills, or you just want to speak English more fluently and confidently, then this lesson is for you.

Now, I've been a teacher of English for nearly 15 years and I've helped people from all over the world on their journey towards mastering British English.

And on this channel we talk about things like pronunciation in a modern British RP accent, we talk about British English and of course, British culture.

And today we're talking about some real phrases.

16 chose the number 16 because I love the number 16.

16 expressions that we tend to use every day.

So in this lesson we're going to go through the 16 phrases.

We'll talk about what each of the phrases means, when to use it, and

we'll also talk about natural pronunciation.

First up, we have you're right, you're right.

And it isn't really asking, are you sick?

You're right is a standard kind of replacement for hi.

So if you're in the street and you see somebody, you might say, you're right.

And the common reply to this is, you're right.

And sometimes you will hear somebody go, yeah, yeah, you.

We're not asking for a detailed kind of description of your life, the pronunciation, you're right, you're right.

So we should really say, do you fancier like, do you fancy a cup of tea or do you fancy going out for dinner?

But quite commonly we just get rid of that, do you, and just make it fancier.

So, for example, oh, fancy a pint later on?

So notice the pronunciation of the word a.

It's a slang version of the words cup of tea because we commonly pronounce that word of in cup of tea as a.

Could people misunderstand cuppa to mean cup of coffee?

So if somebody says, I'm just popping out, it means leaving the house for a short period of time.

Maybe you're going to the shop, the post office, into town.

Maybe I'm just popping out to grab some milk.

Now, commonly, people will drop that sound at the end and it becomes more like popping, Popping.

An alternative to popping out would be nipping out.

So nip and pop both mean go somewhere for a short period of time.

And the word out basically means leaving the house or leaving the place that you currently are.

Something a lot of people say is I can't be bothered or just can't be bothered.

This means I don't feel like it or I don't have the energy or interest.

We'll talk about a slightly ruder version of this in a moment.

But can't be bothered basically means no, I'm just not in the mood and I don't feel like it.

First of all, the word can't, we drop the T because it's sandwiched between a N and a B.

And notice that long vowel sound in the word can't.

Can't be bothered with that dropping of that T. A slightly ruder version of.

Well, it is actually quite a bit ruder than the version of this is I can't be asked.

But again, it's slightly rude to Say you're not in the mood.

So if your boss comes over and goes, oh, could you, could you do that report?

That would probably get you into trouble, so be careful.

It basically means I'm not in the mood, I don't feel like it, I don't want to do it.
