Chinese Zodiac the Great Race A long, long time ago, the Jade Emperor decided to organize a great race to select 12 animals to take turns serving as the king for a year.

This would become the Chinese Zodiac signs to help everyone measure time.

The news spread throughout the animal kingdom and animals from far and wide were excited to participate.

On the day of the race, the Rat, who was clever but not the best swimmer, approached the Ox, a strong and reliable friend.

The Rat asked if it could ride on the ox's back during the river crossing.

The kind hearted ox agreed and together they set off.

As they reached the other side of the river, the Rat saw swiftly, jumped off the ox's back and crossed the finish line first.

The Ox, being slow but steady, came in second place.

And so the Rat claimed the first year of the Zodiac and the Ox took the second.

The Tiger, known for its bravery, sprinted into third place, securing the third year.

In the midst of the race, Tiger the Rabbit cleverly hopped on stepping stones to cross the river swiftly.

As fourth place, the Dragon came in fifth.

It chose not to fly and lent a helping hand to other animals along the way.

The snake, with its slithery moves, startled the horse just before the finish line, securing its own position at sixth, leaving the horse in seventh place.

The Goat, Monkey and Rooster worked together, crossing the finish line in eighth, ninth and 10th places, forming a strong friendship that lasts to this day.

The dog couldn't resist taking a playful dip in the river, which slowed it down.

The dog claimed the 11th year, while the carefree Pit pig, who loved to explore and enjoy life, completed the Zodiac race as the 12th and final sign.

And so the Chinese Zodiac was formed, forever remembering the animal's adventurous race.

Every year, people celebrate the characteristics of the animal associated with that year, passing down the tails of the Great Race and the friendship that emerged among the zodiac animals.
