Indian textile and jewelry exporters on Tuesday welcomed a new era of trade with the US President Donald Trump announced a deal with India that slashes tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18%.

It's in exchange for India halting Russian oil purchases and lowering trade barriers.

Trump said the deal will see India buying more US Energy, coal, technology and farm products, and

that it's the first phase of a broader pact to be negotiated later.

Indian sellers say the cuts to 18% will significantly boost products including clothes, jewellery, footwear and pharmaceuticals.

Ashok Jirawala is the president of the Ulgujirat Textile Federation.

The trade deal will benefit the textile sector, especially the garment industry, or the US Is the biggest market for curtains, bed sheets and other special fabrics.

And consumers in the US Were also hoping that products from India would reach their country.

The chain that was broken will now be restored, and

in the coming days, trade ties with the US will improve.

Prior to last August's tariff hike, 35% of India's bullion and jewelry total exports went to America.

That's according to Gujarat president of the Indian Bullion and Jewellers Association Nainesh Pachika, who looked forward to stalls trade.

Restarting this shift, exporters say, will put them on par with Asian peers like Vietnam and Bangladesh.

Still, New Delhi said 2025 exports to the US in January to November rose almost 16% year on year, to 85 and a half billion dollars.
