Now, Donald Trump says Russia has agreed to pause attacks on Ukrainian cities for a week.

The US President said Vladimir Putin has agreed to a personal request from Trump not to fire on Kiev and other cities and towns for a week due to the current extreme cold.

Ukraine's President, Volodymyr Zelensky thanked Trump for his effort.

But overnight, Russia launched more than 100 drones and at least one missile at Ukraine.

In recent days, Russia has hit Ukraine's energy infrastructure, disrupting power and heating supplies.

Now, Yuri, has there been any acknowledgment of Trump's claim from the Kremlin?

Well, Kremlin spokesman Peskov Gerhard confirmed that US President Trump asked Russian President Putin to hold strikes on Kyiv until February 1st to, as he put it, create favorable conditions for negotiations.

Pskov didn't say whether Putin agreed nor what types of strikes were meant, only that the request concerned conditions for talks.

First, February 1st is almost here, so any pause would expire within days.

Second, Trump referred to all of Ukraine, while Peskov mentioned only Kyiv, a remarkable difference and unclear whether the pause will be extended.

The head of the state, the Duma Defense Committee, said such a cease fire wouldn't serve Russia's interests.

Let's keep in mind that throughout January you said it is, the Russian armed forces continued to regularly attack energy facilities in Ukraine, including this week.

But on the other hand, oppose in shelling is probably also a challenge for Ukrainians for Ukraine's defense strategy in response to the Russian strikes.

Ukraine constantly targets Russian arms factories and as long as those sides under fire, they can't produce new weapons or drones.

Hello, Gerhard, and thank you so much for having me.

I think it's, it will be at the top of the different reasons, including President Trump's ask.

What we have seen before is that Russia was using the missiles that were manufactured in 2026 at the recent attacks, which means they must not have a real stockpile of weapons and supplies to launch a really massive attack within the next couple of weeks.

They understand that Ukraine's energy system is indeed hanging by a thread and we are very worried of what may happen.

But it could be perhaps that to give Donald Trump a hand and to give him an ability to show himself as a great peacemaker, there could have been such an agreement.

Now, what's the situation with the civilian infrastructure right now across the country, given the freezing temperatures?

So we are in the middle of the cold spat and we anticipate that the temperature will go below zero, down to minus 22 today and tomorrow and the next five, six days.

The emergency services are trying to fix as much as possible.

However, it is impossible to fix it back to normal.

And so in Kyiv, we still have hundreds of homes that are without the heating.

We still have electricity just for a couple of hours a day.

And fortunately the water supply has been restored in, in the most of the apartments.

But it is again something that is done by a really unprecedented push from all our emergency services.

And even if we didn't have the attack, such low temperatures is a huge pressure on the energy grid.

This is why everyone is so worried that if we will survive the next couple of weeks.

So can you describe to us how's morale in the country?

How are the ordinary Ukrainians holding up?

People, it's very hard when you cannot provide, like base, basic things to yourself and your family, when you are constantly cold, when you have to figure out a way to have the meet the basic hygienic things, and

when the electricity is really unpredictable, when it will arrive.

People are mostly concentrated on helping each other.

But I didn't hear any single person saying, oh, we should give up or we should capitulate.

We understand who the enemy is, we understand how hard it is.

And that's yet another Russia's attempt to break down our spirits.

And this is why we are so grateful to all the partners who are sending us the diesel generators, including Germany, including European countries, because it gives us yet another fighting chance, surviving chance, and

Now, with the force buildup around Iran, are you concerned that President Trump might be distracted from his focus on Ukraine by the current situation and the conflict with Tehran?

However, if you ask any Ukrainian what they know about Iran, they know that it's Iranian drones, shaheds that are attacking us every night.

We know that Iran was supplying these drones to Russia at the beginning of full scale invasion and continue acting as an alliance to Russia.

So weakening Iran and stopping its ability to support Russia will indeed mean a good thing for Ukraine and it will indeed be a push towards the end of the war, towards a peace.

This is why we are really hopeful that there would be a solution for Iran.
