The imperative

See, a lot of people would describe me as an extrovert.

Past simple

I make these videos, I put these videos out to the world.

I'm always, you know, telling people what's going on.

Sometimes I don't want to talk to a lot of people.

Sometimes I want to recharge by just sitting at home alone doing nothing.

So I found out that Tokyo cities like Tokyo are a great place if you're an introvert.

Now, I'm not talking about the hikikomori.

Hikikomori is another whole nother topic.

So I found several ways that Tokyo is perfect for introverts.

On those days where you don't feel like dealing with people or if you're just a natural introvert.

So number one, the first way that Tokyo is awesome for introverts is a lot of convenience stores have now put in a self checkout if you don't want to deal with people.

If you don't want to play 20 questions, do you have a point card?

Or if you don't want to deal with somebody who locks up when you speak Japanese to them, it's perfect.

You can use the self checkout and they don't get anything wrong.

And a lot of times when I say I don't need a bag and I'll even present the bag that I brought with me to put my groceries in, a lot of times they kind of automatically on autopilot, just give me a bag and charge me for it.

It was 3 yen more than I expected than it normally is.

And then the cashier handed it to me and it was in a bag.

And I had held up my bag and said I have my own bag.

She still charged me for one and gave it to me.

I don't really blame people who have those kind of jobs because they do repetitive tasks all day long.

Be that as it may, it makes me really appreciate the self checkout.

I wanted to add one reason I really like these self checkouts is if I'm listening to a podcast and I just don't want to talk to somebody, sometimes the cashiers get really offended if they see an airpod in your ear.

I just want to go to the self checkout and not have to deal with people.

That's not necessarily an introvert thing.

It's more like I just want to be in my own headspace right now.

Number two reason Tokyo is awesome for introverts is it's not unusual to eat alone.

I'm not talking about McDonald's, I'm not talking about going to Starbucks to get a coffee by yourself.

Even fancy restaurants will let you book a table for one and nobody will ask you, did your date stand you up?

Try to find a picture where they have a booth where it's set up to eat alone.

Usually, you know, if you're out on business, you're out doing sales calls, meeting customers.

You need to have lunch and you don't want to take a lot of time.

You're not going to sit there and have a business lunch.

Have a friend who says the best way to be left alone is to go to a crowded coffee shop in Tokyo, people will leave you alone.

And by the way, if you love coffee shops, you want to go check out Al Hazzas.

He does videos about coffee and other things and he's a really fun channel to watch.

I know this is not that different from other big cities.

You might have a short conversation with somebody in New York, but they don't drag it out, right.

In Tokyo, you don't have that small talk with strangers.

And that's something I really appreciate.

If there's a day where I feel like being an introvert, I don't want to have a lot of social interaction.

Going out to eat alone is perfectly acceptable in a place like Tokyo.

That's one reason Tokyo is great for introverts.

Another reason that Tokyo is great for introverts.

And this is not that different from other big cities.

I don't want to lug like two cases of water up the stairs or even in the elevator.

if I'm there, I'll open the door and they'll place it at the entrance, right where I'm going to, right where I want them to put it.

I can order from Uber, Eats or Wolt, several other applications.

Nobody's sponsoring this, but if you want to, you could.

It charges your credit card, comes right to the door, they ring the bell, they put it on the floor, they take a picture, and

You get a picture of that by email or in the app that proves that they've delivered that.

So it's really easy if you don't want to talk to anybody.

Another great reason Tokyo is awesome for introverts is my neighbors never bother me.

They're quiet, they go about their business.

I have seen them in the hallway, and they will quickly walk past.

And some people will just almost act as if you're not there.

But maybe they're afraid that I'm going to try to speak to them in English.

That's why a lot of people ignore foreigners, is they're like, if I don't see you, you won't speak English to me.

So that's one thing that could be on their minds.

Another thing is people just don't want to be bothered with their neighbors.

They don't want to, you know, be bothered with a lengthy conversation about stuff that doesn't really matter.

So when you want to be an introvert, you live in a big building.
