Like when you make a movie, you know, you get everybody together, you kind of form a little family unit and then you call rap.

And you don't ever see everybody again, you know, you see them a little bit when it's time to promote, but

So it's an honor when at the end of the year, people thinking enough of your movie, you get to get the band back together and you get to go around and eat, eat fancy dinners, dress up, you know, and

Did you have fun with any of the people there like you saw there?

Because I saw on one commercial break, Spielberg made a beeline for you over there.

You get to meet your heroes at these events.

And I learned how to make movies in a building that was named after Steven Spielberg, you know, came up watching all this stuff, so it's been an honor to come to know him.

You know, we came up together out of the Sundance labs, so it's great, man.

I mean, it's been described as a period piece, a supernatural thriller, explores the power of music and love and loss.

And I'm just curious, as the writer, director, producer, how would you define it?

For me, it's just a movie, you know what I mean?

I mean, like, like, like for us, it was about blues music.

And for so long, blues music was found under different genres.

You know, when it was first being being made, they were calling them race records just because black people were singing them.

And then it became blues and then R and B, hip hop.

You know, a lot of times the genres can get confusing.

You know, I love them in all shapes and sizes, all flavors.

And I just kind of threw everything at this one, man.

So it's hard for me to classify other than just calling it a movie, you know?

Now, for me, one of my favorite movies, and I understand there was some inspiration here for you.

My comfort movie, the one I go to when things are bad and I need something to make me feel better.

It's John Carpenter's, like, if I'm watching.

If I'm watching the thing, my kids will go, are you okay, dad?

Cause they know you got a little pick me up, watch everybody eat each other.
