Hello, I'm Kee, and this is my friend Brian.

Brian has the loudest roar, the highest jump and the biggest smile.

But being the king of the jungle comes with great responsibility.

You need to look out for your friends when they need you most.

And sometimes a loud roar can scare friends away.

You might think some animals like lions, crocodiles, or even snakes are bad guys.

In our CBeebies bedtime story, it's called Brian the Lion who Learned, which was written by Francis Stickley and illustrated by Chris Chatterton.

The king of the jungle, A legendary lion, the mightiest, bitiest beast they called Brian was having a perfectly wonderful day and nothing or nobody stood in his way.

He laughed with the lemurs, he pounced without warning.

He played hide and seek with the monkeys all morning.

He greeted Nu with a friendly surprise and wowed all the crowd with his staggering size.

He hugged the hyenas and played in the sun.

And thought to himself as he taunted and chased the jungle is really the friendliest place.

As he pounded the ground he stumbled on something he shouldn't have found.

The animals gathered one paw to another all huddled and hushing and shushing each other.

The way that he smiles at me fills me with dread.

I don't like the way he laughs when I squeak or roars with such force that I'm too scared to speak.

The animals stuttered and swallowed their words.

All eyes opened wide Every jaw dropped in fear.

Mouse tried to hide in the fur of sloth's ear.

I smile and I hug and I laugh when you squeak I'm friendly, he said.

The mouse sighed and stuttered but you're the king.

You're strong in your fierce and you're so powerful.

So the truth is we're all too afraid to say no.

We give you our leaves, our bananas, our things we let you go first at the watering springs we played hide and seek and we try not to win and hold in a shriek every time that you grin.

He couldn't believe that they all felt the same.

He wanted to stroll off and roll up and hide.

He walked to his cave, and he lay down inside as all that he knew became suddenly strange.

I'm not really sure that I know how to change.

The animals glanced from one side to another.

We'll help you, they said with a nod to each other.

Listen, said Mouse, when we're trying to speak and don't interrupt us or laugh at our squeak.

Think about how what you do affects others.

Make space for us all and lift up the ones who are ever so small.

Use your big, booming voice to speak out for others who don't have a choice.

And know, Cynthia Crow, that your strength and your size can do so much more good than you realize.

He taught all the lion cubs how to be fair, the things that they should do and the things that they shouldn't, the things that they could do and the things that they couldn't.

And as the stars shone and the fireflies sparked, he walked all the little ones home in the dark.

A wonderful feeling was growing inside a would it be?

He gazed at the jungle, and Brian was sure he liked this way better.

He liked how it felt to be thoughtful and fair, to listen and never take more than his share.

And just like that, the jungle is back to being the friendliest place.

Brian realized that listening to the other animals made him a better lion.

They taught him how to be thoughtful, fair and kind.

Brian might have learned a lot from his friends, but

the one thing he taught me was how to roar.
