Scroll through any pre med forum and you'll see the same doom and gloom headlines.

But is being a doctor really so terrible?

I'm Dr. Kevin Jubbal from Med School Insiders.

We've worked with over 10,000 students who see past the downsides of medicine.

The best and brightest med school candidates don't see technology as a roadblock, but

as a tool to help them succeed in their careers.

They don't see medicine as responsible, restricting, but

as an opportunity to build a tailored, flexible career with financial stability.

I'll break down some of the most exciting aspects of becoming a doctor and why it may be one of the best careers out there.

And in today's economy, that's no small thing.

Look at tech, an industry that was supposedly the safe, high paying career path.

And in 2025 alone, over 141,000 tech workers were laid off.

And job postings in the sector are down 36% from pre pandemic levels.

Computer science graduates now face a 6.1% unemployment rate, nearly double the national average.

Meanwhile, the healthcare job market couldn't be more different.

The US population is aging rapidly, requiring more medical care than ever.

At the same time, over 20% of currently practicing physicians are 65 or older, which is with another 22% between 55 and 64.

A massive retirement wave is coming, and there simply aren't enough new doctors to replace them.

The US faces a physician shortage of up to 86,000 doctors by 2036, which we covered in a previous video.

And if underserved populations had equal access to healthcare, we'd need more than 200,000 additional physicians right now.

Now, some rightfully argue that the real issue is distribution, but

doctors clustering in wealthy urban areas rather than a shortage of raw numbers.

But either way, if you're willing to go where you're needed, the demand is undeniable.

And with loan forgiveness programs and growing incentives for underserved areas, there's never been more support for doctors who choose that path.

Even with AI advancements, many other careers will become obsolete before AI can replace doctors.

It's a long way off from replacing surgical specialties to and robots lack the human touch necessary to deliver life altering medical news to patients.

So while your friends in tech are anxiously refreshing LinkedIn, you can focus on actually doing your job rather than worrying about whether you'll have one next year.

There are more career paths for doctors today than ever before.

With new fields emerging constantly, you're able to completely design your career around your strengths, interests and lifestyle.

Virtual medicine, or telemedicine, allows doctors to see patients from the comfort of their own homes.

The US telehealth market is projected to grow to over $150 billion by 2030, a massive expansion creating new opportunities for flexible practice.

Longevity medicine, lifestyle medicine, and

sleep medicine are still gaining popularity, with more avenues opening to pursue these fields.

Sure, over time AI could advance enough that we need fewer radiologists, but

the current and growing doctor shortage means help from AI is welcome and appreciated.

Lastly, here's something that doesn't get enough attention.

After decades of stagnation, the physician training pipeline is finally expanding.

For the first time since 1997, Congress has added new Medicare funded residency positions.

Since 2021, 1,200 new slots have been created, the first increase in nearly three decades.

The bipartisan Resident Physician Shortage Reduction act of 2025 proposes adding 14,000 new residency positions over seven years, with priority given to rural areas and states.

With physician shortages, how does this affect you?

More residency slots means better odds of matching into your preferred specialty and location.

It also signals that lawmakers are finally taking the physician shortage seriously.
