Let's learn how to pronounce four words that begin with the letters E U.

Today we have the word eureka, which is an expression meaning I found it.

And eucalyptus, which is a tree with a strong sun smelling leaf.

We are going to pronounce the letters E U in these situations as U, like the word U.

And to say that we are going to have the Y sound.

And to do that, I touch the insides of my back teeth with my tongue, but

the tip of my tongue is not touching, touching my teeth at all.

And then I move to the oo, which has rounded lips.

But for most people, just think about saying the word you.

I'm going to teach these first two words as beginning with your.

Now, if you look this up in the dictionary, you might see something different.

The reason I am teaching it this way is because we must connect syllable number one to syllable number two with that R sound.

So for a lot of my students, thinking about having the yer as the first syllable helps them then to connect it to the R in the next syllable.

Euphoria, we're going to stress syllable number two.

And then for eucalyptus, we're going to stress syllable number three.

So again, we're going to start words one and two with your more because we want to connect it to that R in syllable number two.

And then for the last two words, we're going to start with you.

And these last two words get confusing because we do have a little bit of a different stress pattern in these, stressing syllable number two and syllable number three.
