It needs to be a just and lasting ceasefire.

And that's why it's so important that we repeatedly set out for this forward matters about Ukraine, Ukraine.

And we stand here to support you in the conflict and support you in negotiations and make sure this is a just and lasting several months.

And now I think the main issue is the convergence between our common positions, Europeans and Ukrainians and the US to finalize this peace negotiations and re engage a new face in the best possible conditions for Ukraine, for the Europeans and for our collective security.

I highly appreciate that we are having the opportunity to see you followed me together with Emmanuel and talking about the upcoming days because this could be a decisive time for.

So we are trying to continue our support for Ukraine, as you know.

On the other hand, we are seeing these talks and negotiations in Moscow and us.

And we are still and remain strongly behind Ukraine and giving support to your country because we all know that this, the destiny of this country is the destiny of Europe.

So that's the reason why we are here trying to figure out what we can do and nobody should doubt on our support for Ukraine.

And this is what we are firmly standing behind.

I'm skeptical about some of the details which we are seeing in the documents coming from US side, but

Well, that there Starmer, Zelenskyy, Macron and Mertz meeting inside Downing Street.

Warm words from all of them for each other at the start of this meeting.

Keir Starmer talking about how he's supporting Ukraine in conflict and in negotiations.

Just talking about how much there is to discuss.

Macron talking about the impact on the Russian economy.

And perhaps sounding one note of caution about skepticism about what is coming out of America at the end there.

Let's return to our international correspondent John Sparks, who is at Downing street for us.

Interesting to hear Friedrich Mertz slightly express that note of caution.

One almost got the impression that the rest were being a little bit too polite to do so.

He said, he said that he was skeptical about.

I was struggling to hear because the audio levels were quite low.

But I think that he said that he was skeptical about some of the elements in the negotiating document, if you will.

He also said that we are entering a period that may be crucial.

You know, one thing that struck me from that, from that listening is that this, this was not an upbeat session with Vladimir Zelensky, was it?

I don't think it was infused with a great deal of.

You know, the Europeans have got A real problem on their hands.

They are trying to support the Ukrainians when the Ukrainians are coming under an extreme amount of pressure, both on the battlefield from the Russians, but

also from, from Donald Trump who wants them to sign up.

He may not be particularly interested in the details of the deal, but he wants a deal.

We heard in comments that he made last night, fairly dismissive really about Zelensky.

Didn't think Zelensky had, had read the latest update.

His people were, they were supportive of it, but Zelensky, he wasn't giving his full attention to it.

I mean, real strong arm negotiation tactics.

He was, well, he was trying to sound upbeat.

He said we have a lot of cards in our hands, but

didn't, didn't specify what those cards were.

He also went on to say that the Russian economy was starting to suffer.

But, you know, again, not, not really speaking here from a position of strength.

So I think they've got a real, they've got a real problem here for the Europeans.

I think they've certainly stepped in to support Ukraine, Jane, but

I think we're at a point where they are going to have to decide what they're going to do in the future.

I mean, they're struggling, for example, to use a huge amount of money, Russian assets that have been seized, most of them are in Belgium.

The Europeans have been struggling, struggling to provide those assets to the Ukrainians, to help them run their operations and to fund their government.
