In Indonesia, police have now said that 43 people have died following flooding that's also affected parts of Thailand and Malaysia.

The superlative

In southern Thailand, the city of Hat Yai has recorded its heaviest rainfall in 300 years leaving most of the city submerged.

Let's speak now to Penisa Amocha from the BBC Thai service.

Penisa, what are conditions like there now?

So at the moment I am standing on the main road of the Haddai city center.

Yesterday it was flooded and now it's completely dry.

What we're seeing at the moment is damages.

You can see cars behind me, they got flown up together and buildings and houses has been severely damaged.

On the first floor in particular, a lot of building with glasses has already been completely shattered.

We have talked to a business owner who expressed frustration that they they didn't have enough warning, not in time and not enough for them to minimize all the damages.

This is important for me to note that is the fifth largest city in Thailand and is one of the main economic hub for the southern part of Thailand.

We are talking about damages that cause easily over 10 billion Thai baht that the equivalent of 300 million US dollar or about 235 million British pounds.

We know so far that 33 people have been killed in Thailand.

Do you know how many people have been affected, how many people have been moved and how many people as yet unaccounted for?

So this flooding is not only affected one district or one province.

It spans across nine provinces in the southern part of Thailand.

We are talking about at least 3 million people that got affected.

In the morning we went to one of the main evacuation center in Ha Yai district and we are talking about 8,000 people at least who got displayed from their home and have to be at evacuation center.

Still many still need help at the moment even though the water level has been reduced.

So what rescue operations are taking place right now?

What is the extent of the rescue operation?

So the rescue operation at the moment is not with boat or not with Jeski anymore because the water has been completely dry in many area.

We are talking about bringing in food to people.

The location where I am standing at the moment you have no electricity, no food and no clean water supply enough for everyone.

So we have seen trucks and trucks of private or even government agency that trying to bring in help to people.

And once again there are still people trapped inside their house.
