President Trump says US Negotiators are making progress in their efforts to end the war between Russia and Ukraine.

Trump confirmed territorial concessions by Kyiv were still on the agenda and said the big concession from Moscow would be to stop fighting.

Our North America correspondent David Willis reports.

President Trump, can you share an update on the negotiations between Russia and Ukraine?

No answer on that from the President as he and the first lady headed to Florida for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Earlier, however, he touted tremendous progress in talks to end the bloodshed in Ukraine before announcing he was sending his top diplomat and son in law to Moscow in the hope of a peace agreement.

Steve Witkoff is going over, maybe with Jared.

I'm not sure about Jared going, but he's involved in the process.

And they're going to be meeting with President Putin, I believe, next week in Moscow.

But the role of special envoy Steve Witkoff is coming under fresh scrutiny.

Bloomberg has published details of a telephone conversation in which Mr.

Witkoff appears to be coaching the Russians on how to get on Donald Trump's good side, using flattery and praising his recent cease fire agreement in Gaza.

Since then, however, a 28 point American peace plan that was seen as highly favorable to Russia has been amended, a move welcomed by Ukraine's President, Vladimir Zelensky.

Zelensky said Ukraine's security was in the interest of both America and Ukraine, adding that Russia respected American power more than that of any other country.

But whilst he's seeking a White House meeting to discuss territorial concessions, President Trump would, for now at least, rather leave those sort of details to his negotiators.

In a social media post, he wrote, I look forward to hopefully meeting with President Zelensky and President Putin soon, but

only when the deal to end this war is final or in its final stages.

For many of those caught up in this conflict, those final stages cannot come soon enough.

Last night, a mass drone attack on the Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia left a dozen people injured and buildings and vehicles badly damaged.

After nearly four years of war, the state stakes in these delicate negotiations could hardly be higher.

Our Ukraine reporter, Abdul Jalil, Abdul Razolov is live for us in Kiev.

And Abdul Jalil, what do we know about where things stand right now with the negotiations over this peace proposal?

Well, Kyiv is still hoping to organize a meeting between President Zelensky and Donald TRUMP in the U.S.

the goal of that meeting will be to discuss the most sensitive and contentious issues of the peace plan.

However, now it appears that this discussion will happen in Ukraine when the US Secretary of Army, Dan Driskill visits later this week.

And President Trump suggests that there will be some territorial concessions from both sides.

And this remains one of those key issues that hasn't been resolved in the document.

And so far, the position of Kyiv and Moscow have been irreconcilable.

And Russia wants the occupied territories to be recognized as part of their land, but

also they want the entire Donetsk and Luhansk regions to be given to them.

Remember, the part of Donetsk region is still controlled by the Ukrainian army.

And that means that if that deal comes through, it means the Ukrainian forces will have to pull out from those areas.

But also Russia wants this recognition of those territories, and

Ukraine insists that this will be the red line for them, that they will not cross, that they will not accept any legal recognition of the occupied territories.

Russia keeps saying it has not yet received this revised document.

And so far we've had no indication, have we, that Russia wants to end the fighting.

Just yesterday, the spokesperson of President Putin, Dmitry Peskov, said that they hadn't received any new draft of this peace deal.

But the foreign minister, Sergei Lavrov, Foreign minister of Russia, he suggested that the revised document may not reflect Russia's positions and therefore they may not be acceptable for Moscow.

Remember, Moscow wants the agreements that they proposed in Alaska when Putin met with Donald Trump.

During that meeting, Vladimir Putin suggested that the current frontline will be frozen along the southern regions of Zaporizhzhia and Kherson, but

the entire Donetsk region and Lugansk region will be given to Russia.

And this is something that Ukrainian military are completely against.

They're saying that they cannot simply pull out their troops and give away the land that they still control to Russia without any fight.
