I'm George and today we're going to be looking at some differences between British English and American English.

So as you're coming into the room, please say hello.

And also what differences between American English and British English do you know already?

Okay, so let's have a look at some of your comments.

I've watched all of the American and British English shorts with you and Savannah co hosting.

Unfortunately, she won't be joining today.

But there will be still lots of things, lots of differences that you will learn from this class.

Let's have a look at some more of your comments.

So as I mentioned before, today we're learning the differences between American English and British English.

So what differences do you know already between American English and British English?

I can see you're all from all over the place.

So in the UK we would say the city centre, but in America they would call it downtown.

So we would call them sweets, but in American English they say candy.

So in the UK we would say I live in a flat, but

in American English they would say I live in an apartment.

So thank you very much for those comments.

We're going to start the lesson by looking at some.

So my first question to you is how do you say this, this picture.

So in the uk, we say trousers, trousers, but in America they say pants and yeah, you're right.

In British English, pants generally means underwear.

Okay, so what other differences are there between British English and American English?

When you think of clothes, can you think of any other items of clothing that is different?

I'm seeing lots of differences from my earlier question.

Most of us are using a mix of them that's perfectly fine.

Lots of people around the world just use a mix of British English and American English.

It's kind of like international English, which is perfectly fine to use.

And it's good to know both because then you can understand lots of different speakers from around the world.
