it's truly the ultimate package if you're going to hunt those apexes on the weekend.

It's a motorcycle that gives you the capabilities to freestyle how you want.

for you that don't know me, my background started in supermoto in the American Championship, then on to superbike racing on the KTM RC8 and was pretty much summed up with my latest accomplishments at Pikes Peak International Hill Climb.

At Pikes Peak, I was able to take three course records in three tries, all on three different KTM models.

And I think a lot of the reason why KTM brought me here today and that is to introduce the brand new KTM890SMT, which I have behind me here.

But before we begin, I really want to touch on the origins of the KTM890SMT.

When I think about the name SMT, the first thing that comes to my mind is Hooligan.

It's a little bit wild, a little bit crazy, but

fun, you know, over the years, the KTM990SMT became an iconic motorcycle, and

The new SMT is based around the KTM 890 platform and has all the extreme tech that you come to expect from KTM and is truly the ultimate package if you're going to hunt those apexes on the weekend.

Okay, so for me, there's really not too many things more satisfying than getting up into a mountain pass road, stringing together corners, hitting the apexes.

And, you know, this 890 SMT is really my weapon of choice for getting out and experiencing that.

So all the features of this motorcycle really work together.

They give the rider a completely unique experience for riding.

The ability to really push the limits on the entry of the corner, to hold the line on the apexes, and

to give you all the grip and stability off the exit of the corner.

Okay, so now let's talk a little bit about the WP apex suspension.

More travel gives you the ability to kind of go longer distances with, I'll say comfort, but

really just to be able to push the limits in the saddle.

The longer suspension on top of that also gives you, the rider, more ability to be able to control the dive rate forward and backwards.

For me, it's really a highlight because not only do you have the pitch of the motorcyc on entry, but

then you have the traction when you transfer the weight to the rear.

And this really gives the rider much more feeling and confidence to be able to push.

Okay, so the suspension is adjustable on the front.

You can adjust compression rebound and on the shock, preload and rebound.

So it suits whatever riding style or whatever track road conditions you might be going to.

So if you're going long distances, rough roads, we have a lot of those in the US you open up the compression, it gives you more comfort to be able to go longer distances.

If you're racing Pikes Peak, you close the compression, you put some preload into the rear shock, or if you're putting a passenger on the back, more preload gives you more support.

So the bike is ready and adjustable for any condition that you might be taking it on.

The ergonomics of a motorcycle is your first feeling.

So when you sit on a motorcycle, your hands go onto the bars, your legs sit in between the tank butt touches the seat.

And it's for me, one of the first things that I notice when I hop on a bike if I'm going to like it or not.

And this specific KTM890SMT is kind of just right.

It has a tank that's upright and shrouds that really form in for your knees.

And the upright seating position is really ideal for going long distances, but

also seeing the horizon that's in front of you.

So you're prepared for anything that might come up blind, mountain pass corners, etc.

You want to always keep your eyes on the road ahead of you and be able to see what's coming.

So the position of this motorcycle, it's excellent.

17 inch wheels mounted with Michelin Power GP tires.

These are a wheel and tire combination mostly found on a sport bike.

So on this, it's really the ultimate package.

Okay, let's touch on cornering, ABS and traction control.

These are technologies that have came a long way over the years.

It's a safety and it works really, really good.

It's in all of the latest tech from anywhere from our street bikes all the way to MotoGP.

And for street bike riding, it's important because you're never going to know what's ahead of you on every single corner.

Pikes Peak, for example, is 156 corners and you don't know what's on the back side of it.

KTM's 890smt, it has lean, angle sensitive abs and traction control.

And that's really important because as you come into a corner, if you have too much lean angle, it's not going to give you full braking power because you don't know what might be on the road.

It might be gravel, it might be wet, but it's always one step ahead of you.

It's a pretty awesome feature to have Supermoto abs slipper clutch.

It allows you to remove ABS from the rear end and in return also changes the ABS control for the front.

It's perfect, especially with my background, you know, coming into a corner hot or what's going to be an apex here, sliding a little bit, putting your foot down.

And then in combination with the slipper clutch, it really controls the engine and the deceleration as you're going into the corner.

So as you grab a couple downshifts, back it in a little bit.

The slipper clutch is going to control the rate that the engine and the rear wheel make contact with each other to make it smoother into the corner so you can go faster.

The SMT weighs in at 200kg, which is relatively light and you'll feel on the road.

And the handling as it hugs the corners, it's good and fast or slow.

But another part that probably isn't brought up very often is just pushing the bike around the garage.

We all have to push them around and throw a leg over them and it makes it comfortable for the rider.

It feels so light from side to side, you don't feel the weight of the motorcycle because it's all the suspension.

Each of these features that we talked about for sure, have their own benefit individually, but

it's when they're combined that they have the truly exceptional rider experience that you'll get out of this platform.

with that you get 105 horsepower and mass, amount of torque very low in the rpm.

So in return, it makes for a riding experience that's fun.

Whether you're leaving from the city, going from light to light, or blasting into the mountains, or racing Pikes Peak and taking the switchbacks in and out, fourth gear to first gear, it doesn't matter.

The power's there in the right place to give you the right experience.

At 6,500 rpm and 100 Newton meters of torque, they've placed the torque really in the center of the RPM range.

And what that allows for is very smooth power, whether it's first crack of throttle all the way to high rpm.

Because it has everything where you need it and too much power, you can't use it.

This lands somewhere right in the middle.

The engine is everything that they love in all the KTMs.

Okay, so now let's jump into the electronics.

We have turn by turn navigation, which gives the rider basically a simple avenue to get to your destination.

You get to focus on the ride and not worried about where you're going.

And all that is brought to you on our 5 inch TFT display.

The engineers and designers did a very good job this time with the TFT display.

And the graphics makes it easy to toggle through the switch, select your mode and choose what you want.

You have three available ride modes on hand.

You can choose them by toggling through your switch on the left hand.

But the rain mode is for when the conditions are bad.

It reduces power as well as will reduce power even further if you have any type of lean angle.

Street is pretty much the normal setting mode.

And sport is if you're sporty and you want to get after it.

Looking for a little bit of excitement going up a mountain pass with quickshifter.

Plus you get clutchless up and down shifts.
