So exactly one year ago, Chris and I went on probably the best road trip we've ever done together and we stopped in Takayama City and I fell in love with it.

And ever since then, I've been wanting to get back out there and explore a little bit more of the surrounding area.

So we planned a trip and the day before our trip, I got this comment on YouTube saying, the next time you're in Takayama, you have to visit Hida Furukawa.

So as soon as we get off the Shinkansen, we are going to rent a car and drive to Hida Furukawa.

I love 7-Eleven because they have these fresh smoothies that you can blend yourself.

This is the car we've rented for the trip.

So Hida Furukawa is about a 20-25 minute drive north of Takayama.

It was on Journey Across Japan 2 with Joey.

And they've got really interesting details on the roofs, which I've never seen before.

Hida Furukawa is famous for the canals that line the streets.

Because unlike regular canals, the ones in Hida Furukawa are filled with thousands of beautiful koi fish.

I saw someone feeding the koi, so I'm going to see if I can find some food for them.

I think they might be selling it over there.

It's rare that you're allowed to feed them, so this is exciting. 100 yen.

This is the quintessential Japanese mountain village.

I think it's worth it to come out here just to see the koi alone.

We spent a couple of hours strolling around Hida Furukawa, enjoying the really pretty views, and we started to get really hungry.

So we headed off to Takayama City to enjoy some of the best street food in all of Japan.

Why aren't all these people going to Hida Furukawa?

We were on the way to beef on a stick and we found beef sushi instead, so we're going to try the beef sushi first.

The queue is really long, so it must be good.

One is the 1000 yen super mega special beef.

And the other one is the 600 yen slightly smaller kind of beef stick.

But it's still very good value for money, given this is top of the range beef.

Normally to enjoy this kind of beef you need to pay for a steak, which is like 6,000 to 7,000 yen.

Yeah, you've got the cheaper one, I've got the more expensive one.

Surely we should start with the cheaper one.
