Hi there, Jennifer from Child's Speech with your 2 for Tuesday homophone lesson.

The imperative

Let's learn two words that are pronounced exactly the same way, they just have different spellings and different meanings.

We have Thai, relating to Thailand, its people, culture, and language.

And Thai, what we do with a shoelace, the piece of fabric that typically men wear around their necks to work or more formal occasions, and when two competitors have an equal score, we have a Thai.

To say these words correctly, two little sounds, let's start with that T.

Touch the tip of your tongue to the back of the top front teeth where the skin and the teeth meet on the roof of the mouth, let the air puff out.

Then we're going to move to the I, and to do this open wide, the tip of your tongue will be low, back of the tongue is pulled high up, and then as you move your mouth to a more closed position, your tongue will move to flatter in the mouth.

My husband asked, should I wear a tie to the Thai restaurant?

I know people are going to notice the difference.
