Hey Pillars, and welcome to the race recap of the 2025 UCI Road World Championships in Kigali, Rwanda.

If you guys want to skip to the race highlights, then do so.

But this is a quick overview of the course profile, some stats about the overall race for today, along with the riders to look out with, how the race is going to play out, along with the top competitors.

So we're going to jump into that right now.

So the distance for today's World Championships, who's going to get the rainbow bands?

So it's going to be a circuit race, a lot of elevation for the day.

So we have 5,475 meters of total elevation gain, almost going to 5,500 meters.

As I mentioned, it's a circuit which has loops.

So the race is built on a 15.1 kilometer loop featuring two short climbs plus rolling terrain.

So the cobble climb is 1.3 kilometers at 6.3 percent.

But yeah, the climb is going to be brutal, especially with the cobbles.

It's going to take a beating on the body.

And with that much climbing, that's just insane.

And, you know, if that wasn't enough, it's going to be an altitude.

So the race is 15 to 1800 meters above sea level.

So that's just going to compound fatigue and thin air for the riders.

A lot of riders are going to have to abandon.

Now, the top competitors and teams to watch for today are, of course, the current Rainbow champion Tadej Pogacar.

You know, he's going to have support, hopefully, from Primoz Roglic.

We have Belgium, which is always solid at the World Championships.

So they have Remco Evenepoel and they have other riders are going to play big support to him.

Now, Kenny Holden, he won the ITT World Champs in Rwanda recently.

And then some wild cards are Richard Carapaz from Ecuador, former Olympic champion.

And then we have another two wild card hitters, which is Juan Ayuso from Spain, along with Del Toro from Mexico.

So, yeah, I would say the best teams here are Slovenia, Belgium, Great Britain.

And then you have those wild card countries.

And most likely how the race is going to play out in terms of strategies is that at the very beginning, it's going to be a long day in the saddle.

So you're going to have early breakaways, you know, just basically a nutrition type of day where riders are going to try to break away and the peloton is going to keep it within reach.

And that's just going to go lap after lap after lap mid race.

You know, usually that's when, you know, teams like Belgium are going to try to control Slovenia.

So you're going to see the green jersey at the front.

You're going to see the Belgian jersey at the front controlling.

And then near the very end, I would say with hopefully around 100, 120 kilometers left is when things are really going to pick up and and the tactics are going to come, because that's almost 160 kilometers already in the legs.

And then there's going to be attacks after attacks each lap.

And then near the end, you see they're going to be a small breakaway group or something, something breakaway related that's going to be the the attack.

And if they can sustain that and work together, then that's most likely how the race is going to play out.

So like I said, we're going to have either a pokey.

We're going to have a very strong team trying to go for the break, because that's the only way you're going to win.

This is not going to come down to a sprint in any stretch of the imagination.

Let's watch the race highlights and see how the world championships, the Rainbow Bands, were won.

Now, jumping into the race recap, we got 165 kilometers when the action really starts.

We have Belgium at the front controlling it.

But like I said at the beginning, this is a race of nutrition, of endurance.

So, you know, riders that have support from their national team are going to peel off.

So there was a breakaway up at the front, but it's nothing that's going to be super.

There was none of the big hitters that's going to be threatening to the major teams like Slovenia and Belgium.

And Belgium was controlling it with Slovenia for a lot of the initial 100 kilometers of the road race.

So going into roughly the later stage of the race, you have Belgium, like I said, at the front.

You have a lot of riders that are just trying to survive.

They're trying to get the nutrition because every lap, this cobble climb, people were just getting popped because the road quality is not that good.

And when you know the road quality is not good, it's going to make riding a lot more effort just to get it done.

So you can see that this was the breakaway at the front.

And like I said, not a lot of hitters in this group.

He's protected by Slovenia and they're going up the cobble climb now together as a group.

And like I said, the breakaway only had about two minutes on the peloton, and that's very easily controlled by the peloton.

So no worries there for, like I said, the main hitters.

And it was just chill, like just chill cruising.

You had a lot of riders that were peeling off.

Now, once the peloton caught the breakaway within 20 seconds overhead, you could see that Tadej Pogacar went on the attack.

Remco was a couple of wheels back and it's just game over.

And unfortunately, Remco even couldn't respond, unfortunately.

And it was just Pogi at the front with one Ayuso.

So the laziest man in the pro peloton or the most devious man in the pro peloton went with Pogi and Remco couldn't respond.

He starts playing with his saddle, pretending that he has a bike, you know, probably a good excuse at the end of the race.

He's going full gas, popping a gel and Pogi's just chilled.

We didn't get to see because of the overhead shot, but we have a Mexican rider, Del Toro.

You have Remco that's trying to chase with the rest of the chasers, but you had Del Toro from Mexico, one Ayuso from Spain and then Pogi for Slovenia.

We had Carapaz that was trying to bridge from the Remco group.

And it's during the cobble climb that Juan Ayuso starts going backwards and he gets dropped like it just shows you the road quality plays a huge, a huge role in the overall race.

I honestly thought I didn't think Juan Ayuso was going to pop that easily.

You can see the chasers 30 seconds behind and they're all struggling.

So it goes to show you how informed Pogi is.

And and and Del Toro, he's able to stick with it.
