There's Hiroshima we're about to spend two days and one night in one of the most famous cities in all of Japan eating great local food, staying in a world-renowned resort, visiting iconic Japanese locations and encountering unexpected surprises all the way to the end. This is a one-of-a-kind trip to historic Hiroshima. For the first time ever life in Japan in Hiroshima!

Well, off on another adventure. Get some coffee, some drinks, get ready to relax for three and a half hours. What a life! We love Japan and have lived here for 11 years but never have we been able to do something like what we're about to do.

While Ruth's mom watches our kids, we're leaving the Tokyo area and taking the bullet train to world-renowned Hiroshima, a popular tourist destination in Japan and for good reason. We've been invited to make a video that we've always wanted to make and everything has lined up just right for us to make it. We're in

Hiroshima for the very first time. We're going to see some of the most famous places, stay in an incredible place and have just an amazing two days here.

First up, we're gonna enjoy a local specialty right here at the station. To do that we're meeting up with our contact, Kana-san. We're going to eat Okonomiyaki here in Hiroshima. They have a particular kind that's very famous so here we go.

Let's go eat. Okonomiyaki is a savory Japanese dish that is made from a batter with various kinds of ingredients all grilled on a hot plate. Think of it like a Japanese pizza or a Japanese pancake if you like. Okonomiyaki here in

Hiroshima is different because it is served on top of yakisoba. I'm so excited to try it.

So you can see my noodles on there. Oh yeah, that looks amazing.

I think we're gonna be busy eating now. Oh yeah. So I am looking for gifts to take back because the kids said bring us a gift. Oh like this, look. I know, all the lemon stuff looks awesome. And all the momiji. Doesn't it? If you want to know what a particular area is known for in Japan, just look at their souvenirs. I found one out there that was like these flowers with caramel in it. Oh, that's cool. That's where we're going later. Oh boy. Is that it? Yes. That looks amazing.

I know. I'm gonna get one for the blocks and mom. Okay, yes. Look at that. How much is this?

Oh my goodness, that just screams writer kids. Okay, well, omiyage is already purchased. How about that? Yes. That's total score. Just the beginning. Our tradition is to get a magnet to the places we go and put them on our fridge or anywhere magnetic in the kitchen and have a nice little tally on the wall there of the different places we've been. Now we're gonna get the bus to the hotel where we're staying, which I will tell you is a very nice hotel. Oh, wait till you see it. I can't wait to see it. Our hotel is none other than the Grand

Prince Hotel of Hiroshima, the sponsor of today's video. And as we'll see, they truly have the very best to offer. So we are arriving at the Grand Prince Hotel here in Hiroshima. And it is a beautiful hotel. It is large. The bus comes straight here from the station. Super convenient. And this hotel has a lot of amazing things. In fact, it hosted the G7 in 2023. Whoa, let's see. Let's go check it out. Oh, there's so many doors. Inside the hotel, it's enough to take your breath away. And that's only the main lobby. So beautiful. I am enthralled. We are staying in a nice club room where we have access to a club lounge. Can't wait to show you. We got checked in and then decided to take a quick peek at our room before heading out for the afternoon.

Very nice. Look at this. It is so large. You could fit a whole huge crew in here.

It's like a triple room. It is. We could sleep lengthwise, not even touch each other. That is remarkable. What a beautiful place. We are definitely up there. Amazing. Wow. What's over here? The bathroom. It's so nice. It's nice for sure. Toilet. There you go. Wow. Awesome. Plus they have an onsen. Yes. How fun is that?

This is such a nice room. We can't stay here too long because we're taking a bus to our next place and then we're going to come back and check out more of this floor and the hotel.

But we might have to check out the club lounge right away. Oh, yeah. All right.

So I always bring my own pillow because I'm very particular about my pillow, but they have a firmer one and they have a softer one. Oh, ho, ho, ho.

All right. Should we go check out the club lounge? Let's go. A short walk down the hall and we were there. Okay. Thank you. Coffees. I might need a coffee. I might get a coffee.

The view from the club lounge over Hiroshima was amazing, but it wasn't just the views that were amazing from here. Whoa. Oh, yes. Look at these. One's for me. One's for me. All right.

Yes. Hey, we're only here one night. We might as well make the most of it.

At night, this is going to be beautiful. This hotel is in a great location. Let's enjoy.

I am enthralled with this hotel. In the lobby, we saw pictures of when the G7 Summit was held here in 2023. How surreal for us to be here now. They have so much stuff just right here in the hotel. To leave the hotel in a shopping mall. A big convenience store and everything. Perfect.

We were heading out into Hiroshima for the afternoon and from the hotel, that's quite easy to do. Here from the hotel, they have buses going all the time. There's a huge timetable that you can look at your times. We're going to catch one just directly here from the hotel to go check out the atomic bomb memorial and the peace memorial and explore a little bit of Hiroshima.

Here comes our bus. All right. Let's go. Taking the bus from the hotel, you get a good look at

Hiroshima and all of its many waterways. This modern city has a lot of classic charm as well with trolleys that run the streets. But one thing in particular sets this city, apart from all other cities in the world, save one.

Oh, I see it. Oh, yeah. There it is up there. These parks and memorials stand as a reminder of the atrocities of war, especially of the atomic bomb that was dropped here. Remembering these things is painful, but when the pain encourages us to work for peace, then we must remember.

We're going to see the atomic bomb dome. This is one of the few remaining buildings after the blast, and it stands as a memorial to what happened here.

Wow. It's so surreal to be here, seeing so many pictures and things.

Today, Hiroshima is a green and beautiful place that has come to symbolize peace, and the effects of peace are everywhere in the city and garden memorials. I'm so thankful we have a chance to visit here today. The city is so peaceful. This whole area is so quiet.

Heading back to the hotel, Ruth had some explorations of her own she wanted to do.

Can you go to the beach? That just adds a whole other level.

Oh, how cool is this? This hotel's location is truly spectacular, and as we'll come to see, it's also super practical for seeing all of the main attractions in this area.

This place is not far from the city center, but it's also out on this peninsula that's so pretty.

All these islands around. Look, palm trees.

It's like a getaway in the middle of the city.

No joke. Oh, look, there's our ferry for tomorrow.

This is where we catch the ferry, but the great thing about this hotel is it can be your home base, and from it, you can go into town. You can also catch the ferry from the hotel to go to the island. All right, we made the decision. We saw that earlier here, and we were like, this is what we want for our magnet.

Okay. Wow, it feels amazing in here. Look at the size of this bed. It's like two beds next to each other. I'm living my best life.

As the day drifted towards sunset, we would discover one of the best aspects of this hotel, world-class dining experiences.

Cocktail hour at the club lounge is more than drinks and hors d'oeuvres.

There's so many options to choose from, and the sunset views over Hiroshima are something that I'll never forget.

The sunset from up here is going to be epic, I'm pretty sure.

What a day. We're in Tokyo this morning, Hiroshima in the afternoon, enjoying the club lounge at the Grand Hotel.

But as day turned to night, we're about to experience one of the best dining experiences of our life.

Immediately, we were impressed with our waiter, who explained the hotel, the views, and what sets this place apart.

He made us feel super welcome and increased our expectations for what we were about to experience.

We've had some fancy dinners, but this brings up your time.

One thing I'm sure the food is amazing, having tried it yet, that you cannot beat the view.

I didn't bring anything fancy to Hiroshima.

I'm not that big of a shrimp person, but it was amazing.
