City residents preparing for the arrival of the massive storm.

The standby signal number one is in effect.

The observatory will replace it with the strong wind signal number three at 9-40 tonight, and consider issuing the gale or storm signal number eight between 1 PM and 4 PM on Tuesday.

It was cloudy and hot during the daytime today, with some districts recording a temperature of over 33 degrees Celsius.

With Super Typhoon Ragasa edging closer to the coast of Guangdong, local winds will strengthen tomorrow and the weather will deteriorate rapidly later.

Ragasa was estimated to be about 770 kilometers east-southeast of Hong Kong at 6 PM.

It is forecast to move west-of-west-northwest at about 22 kilometers per hour across the Luzon Strait and enter the northern part of the South China Sea.

This weather satellite image shows Ragasa's extensive circulation with an eye at the center of the Super Typhoon.

The observatory estimates that Ragasa's wind speed can reach a maximum of 230 kilometers per hour, surpassing the top wind speed of Typhoon Haito in 2017.

Ragasa will come closest to Hong Kong on the morning of Wednesday.

Gale to storm-force wind will prevail locally, and winds may reach hurricane-force offshore and on high ground.

Due to the influence of significant storm surge, weather authorities expect a rise in the water level of about two meters over coastal areas of the city on Wednesday morning.

The maximum water level can generally reach around 3.5 to 4 meters above chart datum.

On Monday, the Education Bureau announced that classes at all schools will be suspended on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Hong Kong exchanges and clearing will remain open as usual despite the storm.

The city braces for the impending arrival of Super Typhoon Ragasa, with the Drainage Services Department expecting some 11 flooding black spots in the city to see water levels reaching over one meter.

Villagers of Tai Po, Samun Tsai, hurriedly prepared for the oncoming typhoon as memories of the deluge caused by 2018's Mankut still haunt locals.

A number of residents placed flood panels by the front doors, hoping to reduce potential damages.

Government-supplied sandbags have also been doubled and were quickly snatched up by the locals.

This as the Drainage Services Department believes flooding will reach heights of between 0.6 to 1 meter at seaside village houses.

This local resident is afraid the floodwater will gush into her home, adding that she lost her previous bed from a similar situation and does not want to replace it again.

At nearby Lam Chuen, CCTVs have been installed across the village to monitor the flood situation after authorities increased anti-flood measures in the area over the past few years.

Over at Shing Mun River, drainage authorities expected floodwaters could reach as high as 1.5 meters, which could submerge the area's cycling and pedestrian lanes.

The government noted that flooding black spots such as Tai O, Lei Yu Mun and Toa Harbour could experience flooding of up to 0.6 to 1 meter.

Chief Secretary for Administration Eric Chan, who earlier arrived in Lei Yu Mun to perform an inspection, urged residents living in risk-prone areas near slopes or rooftops to temporarily leave their residences and seek refuge at government shelters.

In an effort to tackle any potential floods, the Drainage Services Department already has nine water pumping robots and 200 emergency response teams put on standby, while the Home Affairs Department will open the doors to its more than 40 temporary shelters to the public starting at 8 tomorrow morning.

This says Chief Executive John Lee noted on social media that he has already instructed the Security Bureau to preemptively activate its Emergency Monitoring and Support Center and reminded officials not to underestimate the strength of the typhoon.

Some members of the public say they're prepared to brace themselves for Super Typhoon Regassa.

The storm is described as the strongest typhoon in the Northwest Pacific so far this year.

This supermarket in Causeway Bay was fairly busy around noon.

As Regassa's impact on Hong Kong is expected to span over three days, many residents have decided to stock up on food.

Most vegetables are already out of stock at this supermarket.

A long queue of customers waited to pay for their groceries.

Yeah, so not too much canned food but that might be a good idea.

While some say they understand why people hold food to prepare for a super typhoon, they themselves do not think it is necessary.

Apart from food, some said their families chose to stock up on duct tapes.

The airport authority predicted inbound and outbound flights in the city will be severely affected as a result of Super Typhoon Regassa.

Hong Kong's flagship carrier Cathay Pacific expects at least 500 flights will be cancelled while Hong Kong Airlines will axe all flights between 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 6 a.m. on Thursday.

As Regassa edges ever closer to the city, a number of travelers took the preemptive step of rescheduling their flights in case of any cancellations.

This woman said she was supposed to fly on the 23rd of September but bought a new ticket just to make sure she can board a plane.

While this Shenzhen tourist said he was originally going to fly from Shenzhen to Taipei yesterday, but had to purchase another ticket to depart from Hong Kong instead owing to poor weather conditions.

The airport authority announced the airport will remain operational over the course of the Super Typhoon's presence in the city, but expected Regassa will severely impact inbound and outbound flights between 6 p.m. tomorrow and Wednesday.

Affected airlines include Cathay Pacific, which predicted at least 500 of its flights will be cancelled prior to Thursday.

Hong Kong Airlines is set to cancel all flights traveling between 6 p.m. on Tuesday and 6 a.m. on Thursday.

Hong Kong Express noted four of its flights will take off early on Tuesday, while cancelling more than a hundred others.

Several Greater Bay Airlines flights will either be cancelled or delayed, while at least 29 China Airlines flights traveling between Hong Kong, Taipei and Kaohsiung will be   The airport authority reminded travelers to check their flight status prior to arriving at the airport, adding that most restaurants at Terminal 1 remain open to the public.

The tropical cyclone Signal No. 1 is currently in effect in Macau and is set to be replaced by Signal No. 3 tomorrow morning.

Local authorities noted there is an increased likelihood of issuing Signal No. 8 between tomorrow afternoon and night.

This as all entertainment facilities in the enclave will cease operations after the No. 8 signal comes into effect.

Weather authorities say it's possible that Regassa will reach within 100 kilometers of Macau during the early hours of Wednesday.

The super typhoon is expected to bring about strong winds, reaching force 12 on the Beaufort wind scale.

Flooding is also expected to reach levels similar to that of Typhoon Hato in 2017 and Typhoon Mangkut in 2018.

Meanwhile, mainland weather authorities issued an orange typhoon warning earlier today.

Authorities have banned large cargo vessels from entering a number of Guangdong ports starting at 2 a.m.

Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party, or LDP, opened its official campaigning to find a party leader replacement who can bring stability and voter support for the beleaguered party.

Five candidates are vying for the top job in a tight race in early October.

Its new leader is still likely going to be prime minister because the LDP remains the top political party in Japan while opposition groups are too strong. to form a coalition.

Agriculture Minister Shinjiro Koizumi and former Economic Security Minister Sane Takaichi are considered the top contenders.

Canada and Portugal followed the UK, as did Australia, with its prime minister echoing Starmer.

This is the best chance the world has had in decades to disarm and isolate Hamas and deliver self-determination for the people of Palestine.
