Hey everybody, Jennifer from Tarle speech.

Let's learn how to pronounce some color words.

I've gotten these questions recently so I thought I would throw them all together in a color lesson.

We have taupe, which is the grayish brown color and it's often described as a warm muted tone.

Beige, which is a light brownish yellow color and it's kind of neutral and like a sand color.

And then we have chartreuse, which is a bright yellow green color and is named after a French liqueur.

One of my favorite colors actually, and if you are French, please forgive me, I am just teaching the American pronunciation here.

Not the French one, the American version.

So taupe is spelled T-A-U-P-E, but we're actually going to say an O.

For beige, we are going to have a long A here, A, A, A.

And then we're going to end in a j sound.

Do not touch the tip of the tongue to anything for this sound.

It's like an S-H sound with your voice box turned on and vibrating.

Beige, beige, beige, beige, beige, beige.

Tip, when we have a word that is of French origin, like a French long word in English, the C-H is pronounced as a sh.

Now, I do hear some people say chartreuse as well with the Z.

I hear both, so you can pick whichever one you prefer.

The living room featured a taupe rock, beige curtains, and a chartreuse vase on the bookshelf.

I know people are going to notice the difference.
